District relocates its Student and Family Services offices
New location offers students and families more user-friendly and centralized service

Richmond Public Schools has relocated the Department of Student and Family Services (formerly Student Services) and its supporting offices as part of the district’s ongoing effort to provide students and families with more cohesive and wholistic service offerings.  Previously located in various locations throughout the district, the Department of Student and Family Services is now centrally housed on the third floor of the Richmond Alternative School, located at 119 W Leigh Street. The move took place during the Winter Break, and is intended to increase service collaboration delivery and accessibility.

The following can now be accessed at the Richmond Alternative School:

  • Health Services
  • School Social Work
  • Hearing Office
  • Pupil Placement Services – formerly Pupil Personnel
  • McKinney-Vento Regional Education Program
  • Language Support Services
  • Behavioral Support Services (PBIS/TDT)
  • Re-enrollment
  • Family and Community Engagement (FACE), which includes:
    Attendance
    Parent and Community Engagement
    Bullying Prevention and Intervention Programs

Along with improved service to stakeholders, the relocation is expected to foster increased collaboration among district personnel by housing frequently interfacing functions in the same location.

The new location also features a McKinney-Vento Resource Center to better support students and families experiencing homelessness. Additional space has been allocated for a Parent Resource Center, which will open later in the year. Phone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses will remain the same. The new mailing address for the Department of Student and Family Services offices will be 119 W Leigh Street, Richmond, VA 23220.

All disciplinary hearings (including School Board disciplinary hearings), previously held in City Hall, will take place at the Richmond Alternative School – 3rd Floor Hearing Office.
