Dear Fisher Flamingoes, What an eventful 2020 we have had so far! The 2020-2021 school year will be unlike any we have ever seen before! It is our hope that you and your child were able to make the best of your summer break given our worldwide condition. We extend a warm welcome to those families who are new to the Fisher school community. We also welcome a new assistant principal to our school, Ms. Jody Campbell.

To my students, staff, families, and community; I am so honored to be your servant leader. Thank you for the opportunity to work with such an amazing school community. I encourage you to stop in or call me to share ideas, concerns, or questions. I wish your family, and especially your student, great success this school year.

If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, please feel free to contact me via at cwalton@rvaschools.net or 804.327.5612.

    Yours in service,

    Principal Walton

"RPS Direct" Emails from Superintendent Kamras

  • RPS Direct Update - October 30, 2020

Dear #RPSStrong Family, By far, what I miss the most this fall is face time (not FaceTime!) with our amazing students. Fortunately, I had the opportunity this morning to connect with a few Obama ES Stars when the Lit Limo and meal delivery bus stopped by. It was easily the highlight of my week :). I know I've said it before, but we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the individuals on our food and transportation teams. They get up well before the sun rises to prep and deliver meals at more than a thousand bus stops – every single day. While I'm at it, can we please give it up for our teachers? I'm in awe of how creative, thoughtful, and determined they are with virtual instruction. Take, for example, the educators at Overby-Sheppard ES. They've arranged to have real-life authors visit their virtual classrooms to read to our students, discuss the writing process, and describe what it's like to be an author or illustrator. I just love that!

  • RPS Direct Update - October 29, 2020

Dear #RPSStrong Family, Last night's episode of RPS Live! featured a wonderful conversation about our new Community Hub model for family engagement. We have three hubs (Southside, East End, and Northside/West End) with 23 "family liaisons" who spend nearly all of their time IN neighborhoods – talking to families, checking on students, and providing support. Joining me for the discussion were Dr. Erin Brown, our new Director of Family Engagement, Chasity Rodriguez, our Southside Hub Coordinator, and Doron Battle, one of our East End Family Liaisons. I encourage you to watch this episode if you missed it! Switching gears, I invite you to show your love for our amazing school leaders by nominating them for an R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership. The nomination window closes Thursday, November 5, so don't delay! Speaking of deadlines, I want to remind RPS employees that tomorrow, Friday, October 30, is your last opportunity to make any benefits changes for 2021.
