    I would like to welcome everyone to the 2020-2021 school year!

    I am Sheleta Crews and I am truly excited to serve as the Principal of Southampton Elementary School for eight years. I am committed to ensuring that we have high expectations for all students which will assist them in reaching their highest potential. When parents, teachers, and community members combine all our efforts, I know that we will be successful.

    I am requesting your support throughout this virtual school year. Continue to build relationships with the staff of Southampton Elementary to help us thrive!

    To my students, it is my pleasure to be your principal as we exhibit excellence each and every day. It is my honor to lead a staff that is dedicated to educating our students.

  • RPS Direct Update - September 17, 2021

    Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Friday! Tonight's updates: Mask Reminders – Parents and caregivers, please be sure students have their masks on when approaching and boarding the school bus. This helps ensure a safe and speedy boarding process. Please also make sure to send your students with a mask that fits their face. Adult size masks are not appropriate for small children, as they do not fit tightly (see CDC graphic below). If you need pediatric masks, your school can provide them. Thank you for helping keep RPS safe! COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate – RPS employees, please be reminded that you have until October 1 to submit full proof of vaccination or obtain a religious/medical exemption. Though I pray it doesn't come to this, please understand that any employee who does not meet the requirements of the mandate will face progressive discipline, including loss of employment.

  • Garden club info! 🌷🌹🌷
    After-school garden club will be offered for grades 3-5 on Mondays from 3pm-4pm. It will be be first come first serve for up to 20 students. Permission slips, given by homeroom teachers to interested students, must be returned by Friday 09/17.

  • Extended Day

    For the 2021-22 school year, RPS and the City of Richmond will provide FREE extended day programming (academic support and enrichment) for all Preschool-5th grade students.

    Extended School Day will be offered Monday through Friday, 2:45pm-5:00pm and 3:15pm-5:30pm*.

    Extended Day is available to all students, and is strongly encouraged for students who require additional academic support in literacy and/or mathematics.

    Extended Day is available for students every day that RPS is in session and we ask that families who register commit to attending every day.

    Snacks and transportation will be provided!

    Completing this survey after August 11th will add your student(s) to the Extended Day waitlist.

  • Required Immunizations

    Starting July 1, Virginia is mandating new vaccinations (unrelated to COVID-19) for any child attending school or daycare in the state. These are in addition to current vaccination requirements. For all the details, please see the flyers below or visit

  • 2021 - 2022 Enrollment

    Welcome to Southampton! We are excited for you to become a member of the Southampton family. 
    Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year opens April 1, 2021. This will include enrollment for both preschoolers (ages 3-4) and kindergarteners. Please follow the links below for more information on enrolling your student.
