Welcome to Westover Hills Elementary School, home of the Beavers! Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our school community, including our amazing students, our loving staff, our supporting families  and partners, and our exciting programs.

As your principal, I am honored to lead our school community to help provide an exciting and rigorous educational experience for our students. Our team is committed to ensuring that our students receive the best possible support to learn and grow.

My vision for Westover Hills ES is to provide students with an educational experience that inspires and motivates them to be lifelong learners and caring contributors to the world around them. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each student, both academically and socially.

Our skilled and devoted staff are committed to making a difference. They want to have a positive impact on your child and above all, they want to provide them with an engaging and joyful learning experience that supports them in becoming independent learners.  Our teachers are always working to get better at what they do through personal self-development and participation in a wide variety of professional development activities. They model life-long learning for our students and never settle for anything less than their best! Thank you  to our incredible staff for their amazing professionalism and incredible energy and their commitment to our students.

Great schools always come back to the relationship between the child and the teacher. Be sure and find ways to engage yourself in school life – your child will notice and respond. There are numerous opportunities for parental involvement. Together, we can make a positive difference. A strong partnership between home and school fosters greater success for our children. Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a part in helping our students develop academically, socially, and emotionally. May we all be present for the joy of learning, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the comfort that comes from belonging to a community.

To my students, staff, families, and community; I am so honored to be your servant leader. Thank you for the opportunity to work with such an amazing school community. I encourage you to stop in or call me to share ideas, concerns, or questions. I wish your family, and especially your student, great success this school year.

If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, please feel free to contact me via at aelkoub@rvaschools.net or 804.780.5002.

    Yours in service,

    Alison El Koubi

"RPS Direct" Emails from Superintendent Kamras

  • RPS Direct Update - September 17, 2020

Dear #RPSStrong Family, Thank you to those of you who've sent feedback about our virtual instruction so far. I can't tell you how much we appreciate it! As I shared earlier in the week, it's clear we need to make some adjustments for students and teachers alike. Our Academic Office is working on some updated schedules as we speak and we'll have something concrete to share at the School Board meeting on Monday. In the meantime, please keep sending me your feedback about this, or any other, aspect of our virtual instruction. Thank you! Turning to my RPS Direct from Tuesday, I want to apologize to members of the Hispanic/Latina/Latino/Latinx community who felt overlooked, erased, or whitewashed by my comment that, "At RPS, we use the term LatinX" for this highly diverse community

  • RPS Direct Update - September 16 (PM), 2020

Dear #RPSStrong Family, It's National Arts in Education Week and we're thrilled to celebrate, as we know the arts aren’t extra, they’re core - for every child, in every neighborhood of our city. We're fortunate to have an amazing team of fine arts teachers across the division who bring their expertise and passion to their (now virtual) classrooms every day. Just take a look at this video created by Sharon Russell, the Art teacher at Albert Hill Middle School! As a reminder, don't forget that we're launching RPS en Vivo tomorrow at 5:30 pm on the RPS en Español Facebook page. I hope to see you there! Finally, please make sure to read the latest contribution from Rodney Robinson (see below) about the film "Black Boys." He's included links to some powerful articles that I encourage every RPS educator to read.
