Woodville Elementary School

Home of the Bears

  • Principal Dear Woodville Elementary School Families,

I am hoping that this email finds you healthy and well, and enjoying the sunshine! With school fast approaching, I know that you have many questions about how school will “work” this fall as we begin the year in a remote learning environment. I appreciate your patience as our school (and school systems around the country) are adjusting plans to respond to the constantly changing environment brought about as a result of COVID-19. We have been hard at work as a district, and at the building, in putting together a solid plan for remote learning and the RPS Reopen with Love Guide is posted on the webpage and I will continue to communicate additional details and/or updates by August 31, 2020.

Below I have outlined a couple of important items:

    Back to School Pick-Up Day
When students come to the school on their designated pick-up day and time they will receive:

    • School Supplies (Student Learning Kits) that your student will need on hand at home
    • Chromebook
    • Hot Spot Device
    • The “Bell Schedule” that we’ll be following during remote learning

    Student Placement

A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year. Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.  Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Woodville is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.

    First Day of School

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2020. This year we will start in the virtual environment. The focus of the day will be meeting the students in each class and orientating students and parents to the virtual environment.

    Closing Thoughts

As always, I pledge to do my very best each day for Woodville Elementary School. I consider it my home, and I will treat it and the students with great care. The times we live in are unprecedented, and we still plan for this year to be another excellent adventure for us all. We will learn, grow, work, and refine our practices together. Most importantly, we will have fun. We look forward to seeing the students, in both the virtual world and on campus. I cannot wait to see the creativity and the innovation of how we will learn this year. The triangle of success between parents, the school, and the students will only grow stronger as we move through the year. It is my privilege and an honor to serve you as your principal of Woodville Elementary School. I look forward to the start of school on Tuesday, September 8th!

    Best Regards,

    Principal Shannon M. Washington

  • RPS Direct Update - September 30, 2020

Dear #RPS Strong Family, I'm reaching out with this special RPS Direct to share that an RPS employee has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is a staff member at Armstrong High School and was last at the school on 9-11. At the direction of the Richmond City Health Department (RCHD), we encourage anyone who was present at Armstrong High School on the date listed above to monitor their symptoms and reach out to their primary care provider if they have any concerns. Individuals can also contact RCHD’s COVID-19 hotline at (804) 205-3501. Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. We will continue to work in close collaboration with the Richmond City Health District to ensure the well-being of the entire RPS community.
