     Dear Parents and Students,

    First and foremost, I would like to say thank you to our students, parents, and community members for all of their support during these challenging times. We are so fortunate to live in a community that rallies together whenever there is a crisis. As we move forward with virtual learning for the remainder of the school year, we cannot stress enough the importance of student engagement in both synchronous and asynchronous learning. Course content is progressing and it is imperative for students to keep up with their school work. Parents, please be sure to periodically check your child’s progress on Parent Portal.

    Put an I.O.U. for a special event or activity in his/her stocking. When students are asked to write about a memorable event in their lives, it isn't a special gift they usually choose to write about, but a particular experience they have had with someone special. During this season of the year we would like to say thanks to:

    Thank you: Teachers for preparing and executing daily interactive lessons for your classes, for maintaining daily office hours in order to provide guidance and support for parents and students and for hosting daily/weekly online meetings so students can connect and collaborate. 

    Thank you: Parents/guardians for working diligently to facilitate the distance learning process for your child(ren) remotely in your home, in addition to your own work and other important responsibilities.

    Thank you: District food service staff for preparing and distributing meals every weekday for all children, regardless of age, who are interested and/or in need.

    Thank you: Transportation and paraprofessional staff for delivering meals to district neighborhoods every weekday, as well as delivering and picking up school work and supplies for students and families as needed.

    Thank you: District technology staff for all of your assistance with technical support.

    Thank you: City of Richmond for your support of our students, families and staff.

    Thank you: Healthcare, emergency service and essential workers for your work every day and for your support of our communities.

    In closing, I want to reiterate our gratitude for your continued support and wish you and your family good health and good spirits throughout the holiday season. We will continue to work and learn with you and to support each other in distance learning and beyond.  I feel confident that when we all return together, it will be with a greater sense of belonging and a renewed perspective on all of the values that make Woodville Elementary School such a special place.

    Beginning Tuesday, February 2, 20201 our 2nd-5th Grade Students will begin taking their mid-year MAP Assessments! We need your help to ensure that our students do their very best on this assessment. Please see the attched letter that has also been mailed home sharing some information on how we can ensure our students perform to their maximum capabilities.   • Woodville Elementary Support Staff will begin it's Lunch Bunch on Monday, February 1, 2021! This is an opportunity for students to socalize with friends, check-in with support staff, and participate in other fun activites. Please see the attached flyer for more information.   • Greetings Woodville Elementary Community,

    Happy New Year! Beginning January 4, 2021 from 3p.m. until 4:30p.m.; Ms. John our Music Teacher will be at Woodville to distribute instruments to the students who will be participating in band this year. 

    Ms. John will be set-up at the front entrace of Woodville Elementary near the marquee. Instrument distribution will be each Monday during the month of January from 3:00p.m. until 4:30p.m.

    Please remember to wear your mask and continue practicing social distancing during instrument pick-up.  If you have any further questions regarding instrucment please reach out to Ms. John at sjohn@rvaschools.net.

  • RPS Direct Update - February 26, 2021

    Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Friday! Today was especially joyous for me, as I had the privilege of presiding over our first-ever Mid-Year Graduation for students from the 2020, 2019, and 2018 classes who have returned to earn their diplomas. These 25 young people have redefined what it means to persevere and we are immensely proud of them! The ceremony today is a result of more than a year's worth of work to find students who left RPS, re-engage them through new programs like Con Ganas (With Determination), and support them through every last obstacle. Please join me in thanking the RPS teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff – along with the students' families! – for making today possible.

  • RPS Direct Update - February 25, 2021

    Dear #RPSStrong Family, I'm thrilled to share that we have a new Chief Operating Officer joining RPS on March 1! Alana Gonzalez has spent her entire career helping government agencies work more efficiently and more equitably. She's coming to us from New York, where she served as Executive Director of Community Reconstruction and Infrastructure for the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery. In this role, she led over 300 recovery and resiliency projects for NY communities affected by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and Hurricane Lee. Ms. Gonzalez also held various roles, including Chief of Staff to the General Manager, at the New York City Housing Authority, which provides affordable housing to more than 400,000 low- to moderate-income New Yorkers.
