Principal's Message

    Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to open this letter by saying WE MISS YOU! Since March 13th our halls and classrooms have been absent without your bright faces and engaging conversations throughout our building.  We hope that during this time of uncertainty you’re taking care of yourself as well as your families.

This year as you know will begin much differently than others, we’ll open “Virtually” with students working from home through various instructional platforms. Our district motto from our superintendent is Re-Open with Love and that’s exactly what we want to ensure takes place with each of our Richmond Alternative School students.

Over the next week you’ll receive your class schedules to be ready for our September 8th opening. On March 13th the district launched our RPS@Home virtual modules students had to complete for course credit, these modules were in conjunction with the core classes students were enrolled in during the school year. Parents, if your child did not complete those modules/courses he/she will need to complete these prior to moving into the next core class. As this will be noted on their student schedules.

For example ( if a student was in English 9 and the modules (RPS@Home) was not completed then that student will complete English 9 prior to moving to English 10)  should you have any questions regarding where your child is with these modules or Edgenuity please contact us at the number below.

New students who need to participate in New Student Orientation you’ll also receive a call from our Director of Orientation next week to schedule your virtual orientation.

As mentioned previously our FIRST day of school is September 8th – each Richmond Alternative School student should have a laptop or Chromebook to begin instruction. If you’ve not received a device or need a hotspot please email at or send a text with your child’s name to 804-774-8577. We’re working diligently to make sure each student has a necessary device to be ready for day one.

Please follow our social media page (Facebook) at Richmond Public Schools and Richmond Alternative School as we post important information daily relating to our campus and district. Staying in contact with each of you is of most importance during this time.

In closing, as we navigate during this virtual world together we’ll continue to support one another to make sure you’re child has the tools to be successful our only ask is that you continue to remain in contact with us each step of the way. We can be reached at

"RPS Direct" Emails from Superintendent Kamras

  • RPS Direct Update - September 18 (PM), 2020

Dear #RPSStrong Family, To all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, RPS wishes you a "Shanah Tovah Umetukah," a Good and Sweet Year! In my family, brisket is the go-to food for this holiday. Mine's been cooking all day; can't wait to hear the boys' verdict :). Thank you again for all the feedback about our virtual instruction. As I shared yesterday, we're drafting some adjusted schedules based on your input. We'll have details at Monday's School Board meeting. In the meantime, feel free to keep emailing any thoughts you have! As you have likely seen from my special RPS Direct messages, we've had a number of positive COVID-19 cases recently. These cases are a reminder that the coronavirus is still very active in our community, and we all need to take every precaution. A few reminders for RPS employees:

  • RPS Direct Update - September 18, 2020

Dear #RPS Strong Family, I'm reaching out with this special RPS Direct to share that two RPS employees have tested positive for COVID-19. One of the employees is a staff member at Henry L. Marsh, III Elementary School. This individual was at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School on 9-11. The other employee is a member of the Transportation Team and was at the Belt Boulevard Transportation Office on 9-17. Both employees are in isolation, per CDC and local guidelines. At the direction of the Richmond City Health Department (RCHD), we encourage anyone who was present at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School or the Belt Boulevard Transportation Office on the dates listed above to monitor their symptoms and reach out to their primary care provider if they have any concerns. Individuals can also contact RCHD’s COVID-19 hotline at (804) 205-3501.
