A Message from Principal Trotter
Greetings Richmond Alternative School Community,
We are confident that you will find the information on this site useful and that you will learn more about what makes Richmond Alternative School a special place. Since September RAS continues to support our students and families as we all navigate through virtual learning. I would like to commend our teachers for doing a phenomenal job facilitating within this new setting. Students you too have done a great job and continue to impress us with classroom discussions and engaging responses.
I would like to highlight a few GREAT things taking place at Richmond Alternative School. Although we’re virtual we:
- We hosted a social distancing Trunk and Treat in October for your community
- In November we distributed over 120 turkeys for Thanksgiving to our school and RPS families.
- Hosted a community event where our campus provided meals to the homeless.
- Prior to winter break we held a school attendance raffle where students who attended school each day from Dec. 7th – 18th had the opportunity to win a 19 inch or 24 inch flat screen tv.
We’d like to celebrate those students who attend school each day and give your BEST!
Our school continues to make great academic gains with by increasing our graduation rate and decreasing our dropout rate. These numbers are attributed to the hard work and high expectations our staff has for each of our students, continuing to encourage them that THEY CAN DO IT!
As we look to the New Year (2021) our school district continues to remain FULLY VIRTUAL, parents we’d like to hear from you! Please don’t hesitate to contact us at the information listed on our school webpage or social media platforms.
Some new things you’ll find on our school website are:
Our social media flat forms (follow us)
Our Aspire Academy Teachers post instructional video weekly (they can be found under the student tab)
If your child attends Spartan/Aspire Academy and you would like to schedule an orientation or need to speak with someone please don’t hesitate to contact us at 804- 780-4388 (office number) 804 -774-8577 (school number)
In closing, continue to remain safe we look forward to seeing your bright faces with us very soon.

RPS Direct Update - January 27 (PM), 2021
Dear #RPSStrong Family, I want to extend a huge thank you to my guests on RPS Live! tonight: Principal Anderson (Blackwell ES), Principal Powell (Cary ES), Principal Hartsfield (MLK PS), Principal London (Henderson MS), and Principal Murray (Marshall HS). If you missed it, I strongly encourage you to catch the video on the RPS Facebook page. It's like watching a TED talk on leadership - but even better. Please join me in expressing our profound gratitude to these extraordinary leaders, and the many others in RPS they represent! As you might recall, in December we celebrated Inclusive Schools Week and we asked our students to submit a t-shirt design to promote inclusion. I'm thrilled to announce the winner: Bella Brownlee, a 4th grade student at Linwood Holton Elementary School!
