Principal's Message

  • Principal Dear Families of G. H. Reid Elementary School,

    It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the G. H. Reid Family! As your principal, I am delighted to work with our dedicated staff and community to help provide an excellent educational experience for our students. We are committed to ensuring that your child(ren) receive the best support to learn and grow.

    My vision for G. H. Reid is to provide students with an educational experience that inspires and motivates them to be lifelong learners and caring contributors to the world around them. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each student, both academically and socially.

    Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a part in helping our students develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we can make a positive difference. A strong partnership between home and school fosters greater success for our children. There are numerous opportunities for parental involvement at Reid. Parents are invited to participate in our Annual Back To School Night, Family Nights, STEM Fair, Career Day, Parent Teacher Conferences, student performances, fieldtrips, celebrations, etc. Monthly G. H. Reid updates will be posted on our website as well as sent home with our students. We encourage our parents to take advantage of every opportunity to support our students by continuous communication with teachers and staff. Our partnership is so important to the success of our students.

    We thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your child. It is our goal to provide a safe and productive learning environment. I encourage you to stop in or call me to share ideas, concerns, or questions. I wish your family, and especially your student, great success this school year.

    G. H. Reid will be closed on November 19, 2020 due to no heat. Chromebook distribution will be rescheduled for a later date.

    Student Supply Kit Distribution

    G. H. Reid Elementary School will host back to school events beginning on 9/3 to provide students with their #ReopenWithLove kits, including instructional supplies, materials and important information. To control traffic flow, we ask families to try to adhere to these times, however, you should come when is convenient for you.  Please see distribution times (click here).

  • RPS Civic Voices Town Hall - Please join us on our Facebook page at 6pm Wednesday, December 2nd for our next RPS Civic Voices Town Hall! The event will be moderated by our very own Mr. Rodney Robinson and will feature RPS educators, community leaders, and advocates engaging in a discussion about recruiting and investing in male teachers of color.

  • RPS Family Academy - With live workshops and a virtual resource library, the Family Academy provides RPS families and advocates the opportunity to connect with each other and get engaged with our childrens' education and future. Learn more and register for upcoming sessions here.

  • Winter Break Meal Packs - RPS School Nutrition Services will be providing 5-Day Meal Packs including breakfast and lunch items before RPS closes for Winter Break from December 21st to January 1st!     Dear #RPSStrong Family, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! In addition to losing multiple games of football keep-away with my boys, I got some much-needed sleep. All ready for December! Please see below for a few time-sensitive reminders: Winter Break Meal Packs – TODAY is the deadline to reserve meal packs for Winter Break. You can place your order in English or Español. Open Enrollment – The deadline to apply for out-of-zone schools and specialty schools is TOMORROW at 4:30 pm. To learn about the different programs at our schools, check out our Virtual School Tour. Please also take a look at our Enroll RPS videos in our Family Academy Virtual Library. DonorsChoose Bonus – If you make a donation to a DonorsChoose project TOMORROW it will automatically be doubled. So a $20 donation instantly becomes a $40 donation! Teachers, whether you need extra books or a new piece of tech for your virtual classroom, now is a great time to create a project on DonorsChoose.     Dear #RPS Strong Family, I'm reaching out with this special RPS Direct to share that seven staff members and four students have tested positive for COVID-19: Academic Office – 2 staff members (last at City Hall on 10-28) J.L. Francis Elementary School – 1 student (not physically present this academic year) Maymont Preschool – 1 staff member (not physically present this academic year) Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary School – 1 student (not physically present this academic year) Richmond Alternative School – 1 student (not physically present this academic year) River City Middle School – 1 staff member (last there on 11-17) Thomas Jefferson High School – 2 staff members (one was last there on 10-21) and 1 student (not physically present this academic year) YMCA Facilitated Learning Center at Miles J. Jones Elementary School – 1 staff member (last there on 11-24; as a result, entire site closed until 12-9) Please reach out to your primary care provider if you have any concerns, or contact the Richmond City Health District by calling their COVID-19 hotline: (804) 205-3501.
