The Castle on The Hill

Principal's Message

  • Principal

Welcome to the Bellevue Elementary School, the Castle on the Hill! Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our school community, including our amazing students, our loving staff, our supporting families and partners, and our exciting programs.

As your principal, I committed to ensuring that students of all socioeconomic backgrounds have the same educational opportunities needed to excel. I’m honored to lead our school community to help provide an exciting and rigorous educational experience for our students. Our team is committed to ensuring that our students receive the best possible support to learn and grow.

My vision for Bellevue ES is to provide students with an educational experience that inspires and motivates them to be lifelong learners and caring contributors to the world around them. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each student, both academically and socially.

Our skilled and devoted staff are committed to making a difference. They want to have a positive impact on your child and above all, they want to provide them with an engaging and joyful learning experience that supports them in becoming independent learners.  Our teachers are always working to get better at what they do through personal self-development and participation in a wide variety of professional development activities. They model life-long learning for our students and never settle for anything less than their best! Thank you  to our incredible staff for their amazing professionalism and incredible energy and their commitment to our students.

Great schools always come back to the relationship between the child and the teacher. Be sure and find ways to engage yourself in school life – your child will notice and respond. There are numerous opportunities for parental involvement. Together, we can make a positive difference. A strong partnership between home and school fosters greater success for our children. Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a part in helping our students develop academically, socially, and emotionally. May we all be present for the joy of learning, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the comfort that comes from belonging to a community.

To my students, staff, families, and community; I am so honored to be your servant leader. Thank you for the opportunity to work with such an amazing school community. I encourage you to stop in or call me to share ideas, concerns, or questions. I wish your family, and especially your student, great success this school year.

If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, please feel free to contact me via at or 804-780-4417.

    Yours in service,

    Principal V. Tanaia Hines

  • Virtual Elementary Grading

Based on feedback from teachers, principals, and families about the challenges associated with assigning letter  grades at the elementary level during virtual instruction, the Administration recommends that we suspend Policy 5-6.2  (Pupil Evaluation and Grading) as it pertains to elementary grades, and instead adopt the following approach during  virtual instruction:

E Exemplary The student demonstrates the skill at an advanced level; the student's  performance exceeds standards/expectations; the student consistently produces  outstanding work.

S Satisfactory The student consistently demonstrates the skill at an expected level for their  grade; the student’s performance meets standards/expectations; the student consistently produces quality work.

N Needs Improvement The student is inconsistent in demonstrating the skill and needs continued  support; the student’s performance is approaching standards/expectations.

U Unsatisfactory Progress The student rarely demonstrates the skill and needs continued support; the  student’s performance is below standards/expectations for their grade.
