    Meet Jordan:  Jordan is in her first year as a member of the Huguenot High School Golf Team. This is her first year participating in sports at Huguenot High School. This year was special for our Golf Team as Jordan was the first female to compete on the golf team with Coach Farquharson. Jordan Jordan was able to learn the game and strategies to being a better golfer.
    Jordan is an Honor Roll student that attends Richmond Community High School. She also works with the Mayor's Youth Academy during the summer.

    Athletic Achievements: Jordan is the perfect example of a student athlete. He is a senior honor student here at JM. He is a senior starter on our football team. Jordan performed well in the opening scrimmages against Prince Edward High School and Park View High School. He has been an instrumental contributor to the team.

    Ashlie’ Watts from Armstrong High School (Presenting award- Tamara Mines, Principal)

    A Senior, with a 4.52 GPA and ranked 7th in her graduating class. Ashlie’ is a four-year letterman, in Basketball, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Indoor/Outdoor Track.  As a freshman, Ashlie’ competed in the Virginia State Track Meet as a member of the 4x100 Meter Relay Team and she has qualified to compete at the state level for each of her four years.   As a senior, Ashlie Watts placed second in the 300-Meters with a personal best record time of 43.82 sec. In addition to her commitment to athletics, Ashlie' is an active member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society,  as well as the Secretary of Richmond Community High School's Key Club and FBLA. She currently serves as an Ambassador Girl Scout working towards her Silver Award.  She is a member of Zion's Voice Community Gospel Choir, the West End Richmond Striders Age Group Track and Field Club, and she volunteers with the Giving Heart and the Petersburg animal shelter.

    A Senior, with a 4.23 GPA ranked 4th in his graduating class. He played Right Tackle on the offensive line of TJ’s football team and helped the team to their best record in years.   He is a member and President of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and French Honor Society member and a Scholastic Standout by having the best SOL scores in the 12th grade.   

    Marvin is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow Chapter Chief. He also volunteers at the Black History Museum and has held a furniture drive for Caritas. He is part of the Young Adult Police Commissioners academy and was the MC of a forum about the opioid crisis in VA.  He will be attending UVA in the fall of 2017 after graduating from the Thomas Jefferson International Baccalaureate program.

    Justice Robinson - Thomas Jefferson High School

    Justice Robinson

    Athletic Achievements:  Justice is the fastest sprinter on the TJ team.  She placed 9th overall at the “Real Deal” Invitational in the 100m.  She is on the team’s 4X100m relay team and has the fastest split on the team.  The 4X100 team has qualified for regionals.  She also displayed great sportsmanship by supporting John Marshall at the Real Deal track meet when a player was injured.
    Academic Achievements:  Project Discovery Club does community service and college tours Mayors Youth Academy – Future Leaders Program, Youth Justice provides community service In the TJ Band, plays Trumpet

    William Wilkins - Armstrong High School 

    William Wilkins

    Athletic Achievements: Sophomore, William Wilkins is a second year letterman on the Wildcat Tennis Team.  He has helped Armstrong to a second place regular season finish in Conference 26.
    Academic Achievements: William earned scholar roll for the First Nine Weeks, honor roll for the Second Nine Weeks, and honor roll for the Third Nine Weeks.  He is a member of the Franklin Military Academy Honor Guard.  He is Franklin’s student ambassador.  And on Saturdays, he spends time teaching tennis to younger kids.

    Ashlie' Watts - Armstrong High School

    Ashlie Watts

    Athletic Achievements: Ashlie' Elisabeth Watts can best be described as a quiet storm.  A senior at Richmond Community  High School, Ashlie'  has achieved academic excellence maintaining  a 4.5 GPA while quietly helping to lead the Armstrong High School Girls’ Track and Field team having earned the honor of a four time Virginia State Qualifier.  As a senior and first time volleyball player, Ashlie' also served as the Libero (defensive specialist) and Captain for the Wildcat Girls’ Volleyball team.
    Ashlie' joined the Wildcat athletic family as a freshman member of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team.  Believing basketball to be her sport of choice, she continued to excel on the court, but decided that she would also join the ranks of the girls’ track and field team. As a freshman,  Ashlie' competed in the Virginia State Track meet as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team, and she has qualified to compete at the state level for each of her four years in high school.  This year, Ashlie' added to her list of athletic accomplishments with a Varsity letter in Girls’ Volleyball and by being honored as the most 'coachable' player on the team.
    Academic Achievements: In addition to her commitment to athletics, Ashlie' is also committed to academic excellence and community service.  While maintaining a 4.5 GPA, Ashlie' is an active member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. She can also be found providing assistance as a Teacher's aid and math lab tutor, or recording meeting minutes as the Secretary of Richmond Community's Key Club and FBLA.
    Ashlie' is also very active in her community where she serves as an Ambassador Girl Scout working towards her Silver Award.  She is a member of Zion's Voice Community Gospel Choir, a volunteer with the Giving Heart, a volunteer with the West End Richmond Striders Age Group Track and Field Club, and a volunteer with the Petersburg Animal Shelter.
    Ashlie's commitment and dedication to academics, athletics, and community service are often seen more than heard.  She possesses great humility with respect to her accomplishments; but when it comes to performance, she sets the bar high and never looks back. Ashlie has been an asset to the Wildcat athletic family, and I am confident that she will be successful in her future endeavors.  Ashlie Watts is a quiet storm, who always demonstrates the true characteristics of a student-athlete and who is well deserving of this honor and award.

    Ian Mott - Huguenot High School

    Ian Mott

    Athletic Achievements: Ian Mott is in his 1st year as a Baseball player for Huguenot High School. Ian attends Open High School as a full-time student. Ian has blossomed as a pitcher for the Falcons. He has enjoys baseball so much that he has spent the last few summers teaching baseball skills to elementary school kids at baseball camps. He also plays golf and tennis and hopes to join the Falcons Golf team.
    Academic Achievements: When Ian isn’t playing sports, he serves as a mentor to encourage leadership and inclusiveness among elementary school boys. He also loves music and has played the piano since he was 6. At his previous school he played piano and keyboards for his school jazz band. This year he enjoys taking a class in the history of Rock & Roll at Open High School. He has also enjoyed taking Chinese as his foreign language choice.
    Ian loves to fish and volunteers several times per month at Pocahontas State Park. During his time at the park, he helps build trails, chop wood, and do park maintenance. He enjoys working at the park so much that he hopes to study forestry or wildlife and fisheries in college.

     Athletic Achievements: Conference champion in the Mile, Runner up 800m, Member of 4 state qualifier relay teams. Two time John Marshall - Middle Distance Runner of the Year and 2016 Most Dedicated Athlete award. 
    Active volunteer at the Hotchkiss recreation center and Member of Northside girls for change.

    Reuben Hewitt - Thomas Jefferson High School

    Hewitt

    Athletic Achievements:  4 years with TJ baseball.   Plays Centerfield.  Batted .500 at first scrimmage with no errors. 
    Academic Achievements:  SCA President.  Robotics Club President.  Drum Major in Marching Band. Helps teach middle schoolers computer science at CodeVA.  National Honor Society.  Spanish Honor Society.  FBLA Regional finalist (state competition in April).  Has been accepted to West Point.

    Takiyah Carter - Thomas Jefferson High School

    Takiyah Carter Athletic Achievements: 4 Years on TJ Basketball and the teams Co-Captain
    Led the team to its first victory against John Marshall in at least 5 years with a team high 20 points! 
    Academic Achievements: In the Fall participated with TJ Drama and Podium Clubs.
    She volunteers with her younger brothers Youth Football 8-10 year old Richmond City Spiders team.
    Takiyah has been busy filling out scholarship and college applications preparing for next year.

    Talley Tofoi - Huguenot High School

    Talley Tofoi

    Tailey is in his second year and a member of the Huguenot High School Falcons Indoor and Outdoor Track teams. He also plays football for the Falcons. During his Freshman year, he qualified for Nationals during the Indoor and Outdoor Seasons. Tailey has continued that success during this Indoor Season. He placed all Conference 20 (placed 1-8) in the Long Jump and 55 m, placed 7th in Region 4A Competition and also competed in the State 4A Track Meet.
    In his free time, Taily enjoys playing basketball, doing puzzles and making/fixing things. He keeps himself motivated to do his best with this saying in mind “finish hard”. He would like to continue running track in college and plans to major in Engineering.

    Taya Robinson - Huguenot High School

    Taya Robinson

    Taya Robinson is a Scholar Roll Student at Richmond Community and a 4 year starter on the Lady Falcons Varsity Basketball Team. She is currently the leading scorer for Girls’ Basketball in the Metro Area with 29pts. /game. She’s not only the leading scorer in the area, but she is also leading her team in points, assists, and rebounds. She has received numerous team, school and Richmond Times Dispatch honors for her basketball accomplishments. Some of those honors include All-State, All- Region, All-Conference 20, All-Conference 26 , Player of the Year and she has recently been nominated for the McDonalds All- American Game.  
    Taya is currently ranked 2nd in her graduating class. She is also a member of FBLA and various Honor Societies.  She is currently the 2nd All-Time Leading Scorer in school history for the Lady Falcons Basketball Team. Taya has received a full athletic scholarship to play basketball at VCU next year.

    MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
    Corvell Poag - Armstrong High School

    Athletic Achievements: Sophomore, Corvell Poag is a leader on the varsity wrestling team.  He has accumulated a record of 20 wins and 6 losses in his first season on the squad.  Most of his wins do not make it to the point system.  He usually defeats his opponents by pinning them.
    Academic Achievements: Mr. Poag has a cumulative 3.9286 grade-point average.  He took 09 Pre-AP Earth Science, Computer Applications, and Technology Foundations in middle school.  Thus, entering his 10th grade year, he has already earned 11 credits towards graduation.

    FEMALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
    Sha'kinah Oliver - Armstrong High School

    Sha'kinah Oliver

    Athletic Achievements: Junior Captain, Sha’kinah Oliver led the Lady Wildcats to a 58-27 victory over Thomas Jefferson on Friday, December 2 and a 74-22 victory over John Marshall on Saturday, December 3.  She averaged 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks in the two game stretch.
    Academic Achievements:Sha’kinah earned a 3.625 grade-point average for the first nine weeks.  Her report card boasted 6 As out of 8 classes, including a “double A” in Graphic Imaging Technology II at the Richmond Technical Center.  Sha’kinah was a captain on the Conference 26 Girls’ Volleyball Runner-up Team and will likely serve as captain of the Softball Team in the spring.

    Justen Scott - Huguenot High School

    Justen Scott

    Justen Scott is in his first year as a Varsity Boys Basketball team member. Justen has also played Volleyball for the Falcons as well. Justen is not only a Scholar Athlete, but also a Scholar Roll Student at Huguenot High School. He is currently ranked in the top 10 of the Junior Class. 
    Justen is also active in various clubs, organizations and church activities. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the National Society of Black Engineers. He has participated in the City Wide Science Fair and has been a winner for 4 years. He is a CTE Stem Academy Student at the Richmond Technical Center and has spent his summers at various STEM Programs at different universities to include University of Richmond and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

    Samiya Jackson - Thomas Jefferson High School

    Athletic Achievements: 3 years on TJ Basketball, currently plays point guard. Scored 18 points in the first scrimmage this year.
    Academic Achievements:  Volunteers at the concession stand at Hotchkiss Community Center. In the CAS (Community Activity Service) program with the IB Program.  Had straight A’s the first 9 weeks!

    Greg Jones - John Marshall High School

    JM

    John Marshall senior Greg Jones recently signed is letter of intent to play basketball at James Madison University. The 6-foot-6 senior forward averaged 15.1 points per game as a junior and was named second-team All-Metro. He displays a balance of power and finesse under the rim and the ability to knock down jump shots. He recently participated in a Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway for the Northside community with his fellow teammates.

    FEMALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
    Shavae' Ward - Armstrong High School

    Shavae Ward Athletic Achievements:Junior, Shavae’ Ward was a force versus Henrico High School, scoring 9 aces, 10 kills, 7 digs, and 3 assists on Tuesday.  On Thursday, she came back with 5 aces and 7 kills versus Atlee High School.  This is Shavae’s first year on the Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team.  She is also the number two ranked player on the Girls’ Tennis Team.
    Academic Achievements: Shavae’ attends Richmond Community High School.  She has earned a 4.2 GPA.

    Blair Page

    Athletic Achievements: Blair is currently one of the captains for the Falcons Football  team and has been a 3 year starter on  offense and defense. He has also played every position on the Offensive Line. He is a Scholar Roll student at Richmond Community High School. He has participated in various clubs and activities as well as he’s a member of the Falcons Boys Track Team.  Blair has received honors as a 2- Time All-Conference Center. Blair is the type of athlete a coach hopes for. He gets it done on the field, in the classroom and you can count on him to do what’s right and will attend college next year.

    October Honorable Mention - Charleston Freeman - Armstrong High School

    Charleston Freeman

    Athletic Achievements: Sophomore late-comer, Charlesten Freeman compiled 60 kills, 29 aces, 40 digs, and 7 blocks this season.  He has helped lead the Wildcats to the Regional Playoffs.  This is the team’s first appearance in my five years as athletic director and likely the first time in school history.
    Last spring, he led the Wildcat Tennis Team to the Boys’ Conference Championship.  In 2017, he will return as our #1 ranked tennis player.  Last fall, he played quarterback for the Armstrong JV Football Team.

    Shannon is in the 10th grade and a First year Volleyball player. One of the team's best setter's and she led the team to a 3-1 victory recently over Petersburg!
    She has been in the RPS IB program for the past 5 years and volunteers her time with the Jewish community center.

    Eugene is 3rd year Football player with the Bulldogs. He has contributed strong performances against Armstrong and James River this season! He is a Junior with 75 hours of community service. He has collected Pennies for Patients, community clean-up projects and participated in Bully prevention just to name a few!
