    Athletic Accomplishments: 2nd year with TJ Softball team. Against John Marshall on April 2nd, Jazmen had the most hits on the team and stole 10 bases. (Yes that is correct, she stole 10 bases in one game!!)
    Academic Accomplishments: 6 years in RPS IB Program including middle school. In National Honor Society and French Honor Society. Volunteers are Broad Rock Community Center and The Science Museum.

    May 2015 Name: Barry Griffin
    Sport: Baseball
    School: Huguenot High School
    Athletic Accomplishments:Barry has been a member of the Baseball team for 4 years. Last year and well as this one, he is leading the team in batting average (.320) and on base percentage (.450). Against James River, he went 1 for 2 and had two stolen bases.
    Academic Accomplishments:Barry is a senior at Richmond Community High School. He has been very active in Boys Scouts and recently became an Eagle Scout. Barry is also a member of the Indoor/Outdoor Track Teams and Varsity Football. Upon graduation, he plans to attend North Carolina A&T and major in Pre-Law.

    April 2015 Name: Alethia Tyler
    Sport: Varsity Outdoor Track
    School: Thomas Jefferson High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: 2 Years on TJHS Outdoor Track Team At the King William Meet last week she came in 1st place in the 100 AND the 200 (both Personal Records) At the King William Meet last week she set a Personal Record in the Long Jump.
    Academic Accomplishments: : 2 Years in the TJ IB Program. In the TJHS Robotics Club Volunteers with the Battery Park Association (cleanup) Volunteers with the Y-me Youth Ministry Program

    April 2015 Name: Lamar Richardson

    School: Armstrong High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Senior, Lamar Richardson earned Singles and Doubles victories over both Hanover and Glen Allen. He only has two losses this entire season.
    Academic Accomplishments: Lamar has a 3.3 overall grade-point average.

    March 2015 Name: Taya Robinson
    Sport: Girl's Basketball
    School: Huguenot High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Taya is currently leading her team in scoring, rebounds, and assists. She is averaging 30+ points a game and is leading the region in scoring. Taya has been nominated as the Conference 26 Player of the Year, as well as the Region and State 3A East Player of the Year. Taya was also selected as a Monthly Scholar athlete for the Richmond Times Dispatch.
    Academic Achievements: Taya is being highly recruited as a Sophomore by top Division I schools such as Tennessee, Auburn, Maryland, Wake Forest, and many more. She plans to go to college to continue playing basketball and major in Sports Medicine. She attends Richmond Community where she in active in community service and clubs at her school. During the off season, she plays AAU Basketball for Bo Williams.

    Athletic Accomplishments: Tennis 3 years, 1 Year TJ Softball. Won doubles match in tennis against Hermitage. Scored one run in softball, and pitched in softball against Patrick Henry.
    Academic Accomplishments:3 Years in IB. In Spanish National Honor Society and the National Honor Society. Volunteers at the Peter Paul Development Center for Youth providing mentoring.

    February Scholar Athletes

    February 2015 Name: Kaitlin Scott
    Sport: Indoor Track and Basketball
    School: Armstrong High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Kaitlin shined at the Bulldog Invitational at Liberty University. She earned first place in the high jump, the 55-meter hurdles, and the 300-meter dash. She was also runner-up in the shot put. She helped the Wildcat Girls Indoor Track Team to place 3rd out of 27 high school teams in the event. In her previous meet, the MLK Invitational in Hampton, Kaitlin recorded a personal best time of 8.67 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and paced the 4x200 relay team to a third place medal. On the basketball court, Miss Scott, the starting power forward, helped lead the Girls Team to 6 wins in the month of January. The Lady Wildcats reached 10 wins for the first time in over 20 years. She is the team’s leading rebounder and shot blocker and serves as team captain. Kaitlin is recognized as the top track athlete in Conference 26. She has been named All-Conference in Volleyball for the past two seasons. Kaitlin led the Armstrong Cross Country and Volleyball Teams to back-to-back Conference 26 Championships in 2013 and 2014. She also led the Indoor Track and Outdoor Track teams to Conference 26 Championships last year. Kaitlin has lettered in Volleyball, Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track. Kaitlin won the state championship in the Outdoor Track 300-meter hurdles in her junior year. She was named Conference 26 Most-Outstanding All-Around Track Athlete in 2014.
    Academic Achievements: Kaitlin finished the last semester with a 3.29 grade-point average while juggling three sports. She has an overall 3.58 GPA. She is being highly recruited to run track at the collegiate level. James Madison University, Hampton University, and Virginia Union University are among schools that have expressed interest in her abilities.

    Athletic Accomplishments: He is a key player on the Boys’ basketball team
    Academic Achievements: He has a 3.7 Grade point average. He is a very determined young man. Maurice collected canned goods for Feed More and pampers for the Child Care Network. He also volunteered to help out and plan the George Wythe High School Blood drive. He participated in the School Bullying “Safety in Schools” awareness.

    January Scholar Athletes

    January 2015 Name: Crystal Chiles
    Sport: Varsity Basketball
    School: Armstrong High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Crystal Chiles tallied 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 assists in a competitive loss versus conference rival, John Marshall. She then recorded 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists to help the Lady Wildcats sweep district foe, Hanover. Crystal leads the team in assists and steals. She is second on the team in both scoring and rebounds (quite an accomplishment for a diminutive point guard).
    Academic Achievements: Crystal earned a 3.375 grade-point average for the first nine weeks. She has excelled academically while also lettering for the Conference Champion Volleyball Team. Crystal is also a member of the Cross Country and Indoor Track Teams. She plans to run Outdoor Track in the spring.

    Accomplishments: He has a 3.5 Grade point average. He is a member wrestling and football team. Jamar assisted with the breast cancer awareness day activities sponsored by the football team. He donated money to build a school in Cambodia. Jamar also participated in the School Bullying “Safety in Schools” awareness. Jamar was recently recognized at a school board meeting for his poem entry in the REA “School Safety Month Contest. Jamar helped out with the Diaper Drive for childcare network.

    Sport: Varsity Basketball
    School: Thomas Jefferson High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: 2 Years on TJHS Varsity Girls Basketball. 14 points and 4 steals in win against Appomattox during Last Saturdays Scrimmage.
    Academic Achievements: 2 Years in IB Program. Volunteers as a coach with her younger brothers 8-10 year old recreation basketball league.

    December 2014 Name: David Witcher
    Sport: Cross Country and Indoor Track
    School: Armstrong High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: David Witcher led the Boys Indoor Track 4x800 Relay Team to set a new school record with a time of 9:14.40. That time breaks the mark that was set five years ago. David is a three-year letterman in track. He has also lettered in Cross Country.
    Academic Achievements: David has a 3.38 overall grade-point average. He also finished last Semester with a 3.44.

    Sport: Cheering Squad
    School: George Wythe High School
    Athletic Accomplishments:She has been a cheerleader for the past four years. . Last year she sphere headed the cheerleaders “Sideline Cheers” for the SunTrust Marathon. They received 8 community service hours for this event. She has collected canned goods for Feed more and participated in the Breast cancer awareness forum.
    Academic Accomplishments: She has a 4.1 grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

    Sport: Varsity Cheerleading

    Athletic Accomplishments: 3 Years on Varsity Cheer, Cheer Team Captain and volunteers with the Midget Cheer Program.
    Academic Achievements: Vice President of TJ’s SCA, IB Ambassador, promotes TJ’s IB Program and currently ranked #1 in TJ’s senior class!

    October 2014 Name: Derrick Redmon
    Sport: Boys Varsity Volleyball
    School: Huguenot High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: This is the first year that Huguenot has had a Volleyball team in at least 8 years. Derrick has made many strides as a young and new player to the game. As the MVP for the JV basketball team last year, he assumed the role of Libero for the Volleyball this year. His defensive plays have been a big part of the young team’s success so far. Although the team hasn’t seen success in a total game match, each game has been played better with scoring improvement each game. During the Petersburg game, the team went 5 matches! Derrick is very quick and can spike and dig as needed with success.
    Academic Accomplishments: Derrick entered HHS in the 9th grade as a student in the STEM program. He has maintained a 3.0 GPA as a part of this program while playing basketball. He has plans to continue basketball and volleyball throughout his high school career and hopefully fulfill his dream of playing basketball at Duke University. He also plays AAU basketball. He believes “hard work can beat talent if talent doesn’t always work hard”.

    September 2014 Name:Maya Edwards
    Sport: Varsity Cheer
    School: Huguenot High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Maya has been a varsity team member for the past four seasons (Fall and Winter Seasons). Maya is a great example of a student athlete. She not only excels in the classroom and on game days but she's also participates in a second sport, track and field. The HHS cheerleaders were invited to participate in a recruitment drive at the Federal Reserve Bank in August. Maya helped to create most of the cheers that were used in the recruitment event.
    Academic Achievements: She continues to maintain a GPA of 3.0 (plus). Maya is a team leader, easy to work with, easy to understand, and always willing to put her best foot forward. Maya has been very instrumental in the season so far. Maya plans to attend college after high school, but hasn’t decided on a major.

    September 2014 Name: Nigel Chavis
    Sport: Varsity Football
    School: Armstrong High School
    Athletic Accomplishments: Nigel Chavis, a team captain, dominated on both sides of the ball, rushing for 131 yards and four touchdowns along with two sacks and a blocked punt versus city rival, John Marshall on Friday night. He also recorded ten tackles, helping lead the Wildcats to their first 2-0 start in quite some time. Nigel was selected as the Channel 8 News Student-Athlete of the Week for his accomplishments.
    Academic Achievements: Nigel had a 3.63 GPA last semester. For most of his junior year, he carried a 4.0 grade-point average. Nigel made his first recruiting trip to UVA this weekend, where Coach King says “he represented Armstrong well”.
