Athletic Accomplishments: Senior Tennis Captain. Won Individual and doubles match against Hopewell on 5/16 to help TJ girls become Conference 26 Team Champions. Was on Tennis team all 4 years of high school
Academic Accomplishments: Spanish Honor Society Vice President, National Honor Society Member, in the IB Program, Senior Class Treasurer, Beta Club Member, Style Weekly’s “16 under 16” recipient, TJHS Marching Band plays Piccolo, Media Center Assistant, and will be attending Hampton University on a $20,000 Merit based scholarship and Altria Scholarship
Name: Bradley Simmons
Sport: Varsity Baseball
School: Huguenot High School
Athletic Accomplishments: Varsity starter 4years at 1st base and currently the starting catcher. He had a triple at Armstrong and had an RBI at Monacan which was the only score of the game.
Activities, hobbies, college plans, and favorite quote, etc.: Bradley plans to attend ODU in the fall and major in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Music Education. In addition to playing baseball for 4 years, he has been a member of the Marching Falcons Band. He was granted the honor of drum major this year. He also works with Accent on Food which is a Charity Organization in Richmond that feeds the homeless. This is a weekly event on Wednesdays which also consists of picking up bread at Panera’s.

Sport: Varsity Girls Tennis
School: Thomas Jefferson High School
Athletic Accomplishments: 3 Years on Varsity Girls Tennis Team Won her singles match and doubles match in TJ’s near defeat of Hermitage in Girls Tennis.
Academic Accomplishments: TJ’s International Baccalaureate Program, Volunteer Salvation Army Kettle (bell ringing), Volunteer Veterans Hospital/Nursing Homes, Member of National Beta Club/National Honor Society and President of Italian Honor Society at TJ
Name: Yosufu Ibrahaim
School: Armstrong High School
Athletic Accomplishments: On Tuesday, April 1, Yosufu earned victories in the #2 singles match and the #1 doubles match versus a very competitive Hanover team. Then on Thursday, he had a great showing against a strong Glen Allen team. According to his coach, he is making a push for the Armstrong #1 spot, which would be a major achievement for a sophomore.
Academic Accomplishments: Yosufu had an overall 4.08 grade point average coming into this school year. For the first semester, he earned a 4.33. He is currently attending Richmond Community High School.

Name: Taya Robinson
Sport: Varsity Girls Basketball
School:Richmond Community/Huguenot High School
Athletic Accomplishments: Taya Robinson has received honors as a Richmond Times Dispatch Player of the Week. She was a major contributor to the success of Huguenot High School girls’ basketball team for the 2013-2014 season. The team finished as Conference 26 Runner-up, Region 3A winners and State Semifinalists. With the team’s success, Taya received many individual awards and honors. She is Player of the Year for Conference 26, Region 3A Co-Player of the Year, 1st Team All-State, and all Metro Team. Taya is one of the only Freshmen to receive such honors this year.
Academic Accomplishments: She is an Honor Roll student and is also a member of FBLA. She has future plans to attend college and major in Sports Medicine.

Athletic Accomplishments: Marrell Epps is the GWHS Athlete of the week. Marrell is a senior and a member of the baseball team.
Academic Accomplishments: Marrell is a member of the forensics team he placed 2nd in the conference 26 competition in the humorous duo. Marrell has participated in the following community service activities: Partnership with Feedmore, Childcare Network Diaper Drive, raised money for the Autism Society of Richmond Virginia, and breast cancer awareness.

Name: Destyni Sheed
School: Huguenot High
Athletic Accomplishments: Destyni had a game high of 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. She is currently averaging 10pts., 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Academic Accomplishments: one of her favorite things to do include playing basketball, fashion design, shopping and being an Entrepreneur: I’d like my own clothing boutique on day. I also like to swim and exercise to stay in shape. She was a participant in the Mayor’s Youth Academy, a Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority Summer Intern, she attended the Capital One Future Leaders Forum for Young Women, is a Youth Mentor- Phenomenal GEM-Project Lunch with Santa 2010, received a Governor’s Career Readiness Certification, and a member of FBLA at Huguenot High School.
Name: Robert Valentine
Sport: Varsity Volleyball and Basketball
Athletic Accomplishments: Robert led the Wildcats to a 2-point victory over conference foe, Glen Allen. In the game, he had 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. He followed that performance with 18 points and 3 rebounds in a win over current state champion, Henrico. Then on Friday night, he scored a team-high 33 points and also chipped in 6 assists and 3 rebounds in another win over Atlee.
Academic Accomplishments: Robert is enrolled in all advanced class schedule. On the first marking period, he posted A's in Advanced Chemistry Lab, College Algebra, AP Chemistry, and Principles of Business and Marketing. He also received a B in AP Government and Politics.

January Scholar Athletes
Name: Tyriek Allen
School: Huguenot High
Athletic Accomplishments: Undefeated this year with a record of 5 wins and 0 loses. Tyriek is the winner of the Petersburg Invitational in the 182 weight class.
Academic Accomplishments: JROTC 1st Sergeant, plays guitar, video games, enjoys exercising, plans to enlist into the US Army and then enroll in one of the art institutes.
Name: Jasmine Ross
Sport: Indoor Track
School: John Marshall High
Athletic Accomplishments: District, Regional, and State Automatic Qualifier. Lead the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relay teams to group 3A state number 1 rankings.
Academic Accomplishments: Taking all honor and A.P. classes as a Jr. Has already started dual enrollment classes.
December Scholar Athletes
Name: Kaitlin Scott
Athletic Accomplishments: On Wednesday, October 30, Kaitlin led the Armstrong Cross Country team to the first ever Conference 26 Championship by finishing in first place at Battlefield Park in Petersburg. This accomplishment earned her a berth in regional competition. The following week, on Thursday, November 7, she led the Lady Wildcat Volleyball team to its first ever Conference 26 Championship. Kaitlin recorded 3 blocks, 10 aces, 4 assists, and 10 kills in a 3-2 win over runner-up John Marshall. On Monday 12/2, she put up 10 points and 23 rebounds against George Wythe. Then on Wednesday 12/4, she had 10 points and 16 rebounds. On Friday 12/6 and Saturday 12/7, she competed for the Armstrong Indoor Track team at the Hampton Invitational. On 12/9, she was Armstrong’s nomination for the Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar Athlete Program. Kaitlin has earned All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors in Outdoor Track as a member of the 4x4 Relay Team. After gaining championships in Cross Country and Girls Volleyball, she is now playing Girls Basketball and Indoor Track at the same time. Kaitlin is a three-year letterman in Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track. 1. Academic Accomplishments:Kaitlin finished her 10th grade year with As in Honors English, Honors World History II, and Physical Education. She also had Bs in Spanish 3, Earth Science, and Econ Finance. She did not post a grade lower than a C for the entire school year. She is currently exploring Television Productions and Culinary Arts at the Richmond Technical Center. She is interested in news reporting and hopes to attend Hampton, Howard, or Virginia State University.

Name: Diamond Matthews
School: George Wythe
Athletic Accomplishments: Varsity Cheerleader: Senior: She has been a cheerleader for the past two years. She has a 3.4 Grade point average. Diamond was President of the junior class. Under Diamond’s rule she organized a “Diaper Drive” for the Child Care Network. They collected over 500 diapers. This year she is still collecting Pennies for the Child care Network. Huggies has agreed to donate a diaper for every penny collected.
Academic Accomplishments: She has a 3.4 Grade point average. Diamond was President of the junior class.
November Scholar Athletes
Name: Anaisha Hite
School: John Marshall
Athletic Accomplishments: Anaisha played an important part in our playoff run this year. She was a team leader and worked very hard to make sure our girls’ volleyball team was competitive. Our underclassman looked to her direction and inspiration. We are lucky to have her return next year as a leader of our 2014 volleyball team.
Academic Accomplishments: Anasisha currently holds a 3.15 GPA

Athletic Accomplishments: Jevon did a great job the past two football games. He is averaging 151 yards per game, with 8.5 yards per carry average. He has been named the top rusher in the Dominion conference for the past two weeks.

Athletic Accomplishments: Reduced her 3.1 mile run time by 5 minutes the past week!
Academic Accomplishments: International Baccalaureate program and Volunteers at the Daily Planet .
Name: Harrison Bates
School: Armstrong High School - Varsity Cross Country and Volleyball
Athletic Accomplishments: Harrison Bates recorded 12 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs, and 3 aces in volleyball matches against Varina and Highland Springs last week. He also finished a Cross Country meet in 23 minutes in that same week. Harrison is a three-sport athlete who is also currently pre-season training for Varsity Basketball. He has been competing in the Meadowbrook Fall League and is averaging 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Academic Accomplishments: On Harrison’s last report card, he had a 93 A in Biology, a 93 A in Pre-Calculus, a 90 B in American Literature, an 86 B in AP Language, and a C in Government. He is also taking College 101.
September Scholar Athletes
Name: Kim Childrey
School: Armstrong - Girls Volleyball
Athletic Accomplishments: Kim Childrey led the Lady Wildcats to a 3-0 sweep of Thomas Jefferson on Thursday, September 5. She scored 18 aces in a row, recorded 9 assists, 4 digs, and 3 kills. She is also a varsity letterman in Basketball and Softball. Last school year, she was named to the Capital District All-Academic Team.
Academic Accomplishments: Kim currently has a 4.3 GPA and ranks 9th in her class. She has aspirations to attend NYU next school year.
Name: Jerrell Sanders
School: Huguenot HS - Golf
Athletic Accomplishments: Jerrell played well this week as we battled LC Bird, James River, Clover Hill and Midlothian. Jerrell is an accomplished swimmer and member of the Richmond Racers Swim Team. Additionally, Jerrell is a lifeguard with Richmond Parks & Recreation. He enjoys playing basketball and plans to attend college to study engineering after high school
