Dr. Shelia Hines

Dr. Shelia D. Hines a native of Blackstone, Virginia (Nottoway County Public Schools, 1974). Following undergraduate studies at Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (Endorsement in Driver Education), she began her educational career in Richmond Public Schools in 1978 working as a Perceptional Motor/Physical Education teacher. A 15-year career in teaching, coaching, and Driver Education within the district deeply impacted Dr. Hines toward a trajectory of transforming young minds toward high achievement. Empowered with a strong desire to make an impact on students and the community, she completed graduate work in School Guidance (1993) and in Educational Administration and Supervision (2000) from Virginia State University which led to two (2) Master’s Degrees. Her educational career expanded to working as a School Counselor on the middle and high school level for seven (7) years and as an Administrator on the elementary and high school level for 20 years. After many years of teaching and serving as a school counselor, she earned her Doctorate Degree in Administration and Leadership Supervision along with her Division Superintendent License in 2009 from Virginia State University.  

Her educational experiences on the elementary, middle and high school levels afforded her the opportunity to work with diverse groups regardless of their socioeconomic status or background over a span of 42 years all with Richmond Public Schools. With the increased enrollment of the Hispanic population at Huguenot High School, Dr. Hines enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University to work on certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). 

In her current role as one of the Assistant Principals at Huguenot High School, Dr. Hines’ educational philosophy is based upon her uncompromising belief that all students can learn given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family. Dr. Hines is quite excited to continue her next adventure in education- virtual learning for the 2020-2021 school year. She is happy to be a proud FALCON!
