Heaven Cannady is a dedicated sophomore that attends Open High School. She is an
athlete at George Wythe High School. She plays Volleyball. Heaven is the athlete of the week
because she scored the winning points in the Huguenot vs George Wythe game.Academic & Community Achievements:
She is a member of the George Wythe Forensics Team and Girls with Goals. She is enrolled in 10 Honors
English, Chemistry, Spanish III, Algebra 2, Economics and Personal Finance, 10 Gym
and US/VA. History Heaven is a scholar student. She is a member of the George Wythe Forensics Team and Girls with Goals.She has participated in the following community service activities at: The “Halloween
School Safety Program.” The annual Canned Good Drive, The monthly Litter Pick Up,
The Safe Driving Campaign, The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. She is in her sophomore year with 120 community service hours.MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - Jaylen Tyler
Thomas Jefferson HS

Jaylen has been Thomas Jefferson’s starting quarterback this season.
After transferring to Thomas Jefferson this year, he has helped lead TJ to a historic season.
Thomas Jefferson is 8-1 for the first time since 1952 and is ranked #1 in the central region.
Largely in part to Jaylen’s performance this year on the field as he leads all quarterbacks
in the central region with 2,045 yards and 26 touchdowns.Academic Achievements:
Jaylen has been an active member in the coaches in the classroom community service program participating in this
year’s Trunk or Treat community outreach. After graduation, Jaylen would like to attend
a four year college or university to play college football while studying sports

FEMALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - Te'Anna Warren
John Marshall HS

Sport: VolleyballAthletic Achievements:
Te’anna has played Volleyball with the mighty Justices for four years. In the
game against Huguenot High School she had 9 Aces 4 Digs and 3 Kills. She strongly believes you should
always give your very best to whatever you attempt. Some days you do well and win and others you lose
but always continue to strive for the best you can be. When Te’anna was asked the question; tell
something special about you. She stated she works extremely hard to maintain her 3.695 Grade Point
Average and is a very loyal friend. Her hobbies are drawing, cooking and playing computer games. Her
community services include volunteering with 6 Pic (Six Points Innovation) to build benches. The
benches were placed at bus stops where there is no seating for persons in the community waiting for city
buses. She also assists in the John Marshall Community Service Projects; Breast Cancer Awareness
Campaign, Read Across JM and community clean-up.Academic Achievements:
Te’anna has a 3.695 Grade Point Average while she continues to play
Volleyball, Draw and cook as well as have fun with friends. Her plans are to become a Sous Chef or
Head Chef and eventually open her own restaurant. Her goals are to attend Virginia State University,
Norfolk State University or the Art Institute and major in Culinary Arts.MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - Shaumas Wyche

Shaumas is a second year football player, who is playing in the position of Wide
Receiver and Defensive Back. In his last game against Lee-Davis, Shaumas had 3 tackles, 3 pass break ups,
and 1 interception.Academic Achievements:
Achievements: Shaumas attends Armstrong High School and had a 3.5 GPA in the second
semester of last year. He excelled in the following classes last year: World History, English and Biology.NOVEMBER SCHOLAR ATHLETES
FEMALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - Jayla Townes
Thomas Jefferson HS

Sport: VolleyballAthletic Achievements:
Jayla has been a leader on the Thomas Jefferson volleyball team this year.
This is Jayla’s third year as a member of the team. Jayla first started playing volleyball in
fifth grade and immediately fell in love with it. Thomas Jefferson’s volleyball team will be
the number four seeded team in the VHSL class 2A regional tournament. Jayla is a team
leader in kills and points.Academic Achievements:
Jayla balances her time between volleyball and her rigorous
academic load being in the Tomas Jefferson IB program. Outside of school, Jayla is active
in her community volunteering for the 9 th District City Council and Sheriff Irving. Jayla
also participates in the Delta Gyms and AKA Ascend programs. Jayla would like to attend
an HBCU when she graduates and would like to study Political Science. Jayla would like to
pursue a career as a Criminal Defense Attorney.MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - Miles Williamson
Thomas Jefferson HS

GPA: 4.5
Sport: FootballAthletic Achievements:
Miles is the place kicker and punter for Thomas Jefferson’s football team.
This is Miles first year playing kicker for the team. Miles has been a standout soccer
player for the last three years until TJ coaches discovered him and converted him into a
football player. Miles has been a quick learner and a dependable part of the 8-2 Thomas
Jefferson football team this year. So far he has a long field goal of 35 yards, but says he is
making field goals from 49 yards in practice.Academic Achievements:
Miles 4.5 GPA shows that he is not only on
target on the football field, but that he is on target in school. Outside of school, Miles
volunteers with numerous community orginazations including Food for Hunger. Miles is
undecided about his collegiate choices at this time because now he may want to kick in
college. He will be looking into local Division III schools in the near future.
