Richmond Public Schools is excited to announce the continuation of RPS Shines 2019, an initiative to ensure that all RPS students feel valued, loved and cared for by creating safe and clean environments.
In the summer of 2019 alone, over 1,300 Richmonders and 50+ partner organizations donated their time, expertise, and money to beautify and fix-up our schools, including: 48 school beautification projects, 5 school bathroom remodels, and 9 community murals. While the bulk of this work will be done in the summer months each year, we are continuing these opportunities year-round!
Here are all of the ways for you to get involved:
If you are interested in supporting our ongoing response to COVID-19, please consider Donating to our COVID-19 Response Fund and/or Volunteering to support our ongoing food distribution efforts taking place throughout the summer. Most volunteer shifts take place Monday through Friday from 9:00am-12:30pm unless otherwise noted.
Beautification Days will enhance indoor and outdoor common areas in every RPS school. Volunteers will beautify school buildings and grounds by painting walls, organizing libraries, cleaning bathrooms, picking up trash, mowing the grass, weeding gardens, and so much more! The Bathroom Blitz initiative aims to improve school restrooms, electricity, HVAC systems, and other infrastructure at schools across the community. Volunteers with experience in providing skilled labor in areas such as plumbing, installation, electrical work, painting, and deep cleaning are needed to accomplish this critical work. The process of making art can powerfully give voice to community members. Through our mural beautification efforts we hope to engage the community in creating artwork that beautifies our schools. Led by local artists and volunteers, community members will engage in conversations regarding Richmond’s local history and the rich diversity of our students and families. If you’re interested in volunteering your time, donating supplies, or making a financial contribution for any of these initiatives, or if you have questions about how to get involved, send an email to RPS Community Partnerships Coordinator, Grady Hart (GHart@rvaschools.net), and Volunteer Engagement Specialist, Will Keenan (email@example.com).
Thank you so much for your time - we look forward to working with you this summer!
