Richmond Math supports and is aligned to both the 2016 Standards of Learning and the VDOE Mathematical Process Goals. The 2016 Standards of Learning are conceptually based and require students to meet the high expectations of thinking critically, reasoning, developing problem-solving strategies, communicating mathematically, and using multiple representations to engage in mathematics both mentally and physically. Students are also expected to apply previously learned concepts and skills to current and future learning experiences. The Richmond Math curriculum supports teachers ability to facilitate learning experiences that are aligned to these goals for students. Through its intentional design, structure and progression, the curriculum employs a set of skills and representations that will be utilized from K through 6th grade. This creates a mathematical toolkit that students can take with them from one grade level to the next.
