Prek Virtual Learning Information

  • Here are some important things to know about our preschool program this year!

🏠  Preschool will be fully virtual for the first part of the year.

💻  All students will receive a Chromebook. Due to global supply chain delays our order of additional Chromebooks is running behind. Please visit #ReopenWithLove for up to date technology distribution information.

📲  Families without internet access will receive a hotspot along with their Chromebooks to access virtual learning.

💻  Preschool will start with a “soft opening plan” that includes group calls and activities using the at home learning kits. Virtual classes will not start until all of our students receive a Chromebook.

✂   Preschool at home learning kits will be distributed to officially enrolled students at our five preschool locations on September 9th, 10th and 11th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Please contact your teacher for more information.

🍏 Anyone under the age of 18 regardless of enrollment status or location will be able to receive two meals everyday. Students DO NOT need to provide their lunch codes when they come to pick up meals. To help our families locate the meal distribution site that is most convenient for them, RPS has created a google map that has each stop on our mobile meal delivery route! Simply click on the map to find the location that is closest to you and the times of distribution. The map is available at #ReopenWithLove.

👫  Students will be placed in a class with one teacher and one instructional assistant.

🙋 Virtual classes will be live, interactive and fun. TeachingStartegies® has created a developmentally appropriate virtual curriculum for preschool - the “Creative Curriculum Cloud”.

🕑 The schedule will prepare students to transition into the classroom when schools reopen.

🏆  Virtual classes will provide the foundation for number and letter recognition, formal reading, and problem-solving before children enter kindergarten.

🤝  During virtual classes children will learn and practice social skills.

🎨  Virtual classes will provide easy and fun guided parent/child activities.

Students will not be on the computer all day, there will be scheduled breaks for independent activities, art, movement,  lunch and rest time.

📋  According to research presented by the American Academy of Pediatrics too much screen time is bad, but added screen time for virtual learning is ok! Just keep in mind the 3 C’s: child, content and context.
