Program Description/Goals:
Spartan Academy, part of Richmond Alternative School, is for 6th - 12th grade students who have behavior concerns/infractions at their home school. Students are provided interventions and support with behavior and academics. We use positive norms and positive peer pressure from the group in order to maintain a positive learning culture.
-
Instructional Delivery:
Small class sizes, traditional teacher-led instruction; Use of “Town Hall” meetings to build student leadership capacity and community; Partnership with Camelot Education provides 17 staff members who support student referrals, behavior and academics.
Characteristics of an ideal student:
- Middle or high school student with significant behavior challenges at home school
- Direct placement by principal, School Board, or after an alternative education referral is created and determined by team for best placement
- Students can transition back to home school after 45 days after reviewing behavioral, attendance and academic data
