Am I required to work in person during the 2021-2022 school year?
Yes, all employees will be expected to return to work in-person to their assigned location(s) during the 2021-2022 school year.
I have a disability and have difficulties wearing a mask. Are there exceptions to the division’s mask policy?
All staff are required to wear a mask. For a medically related accommodation request, please contact email@example.com for further guidance.
What are some of the symptoms employees should check for each day prior to reporting to work?
Fever, respiratory symptoms such as nasal congestion and shortness of breath, loss of taste and/or smell, and in some cases, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea are all symptoms employees should check for daily before coming to work. If you are ever in doubt, please stay home and call your doctor.
What happens if someone tests positive for COVID-19 at my assigned location?
RPS will continue to work in collaboration with the Richmond City Health District (RCHD) to perform contact tracing of all positive cases. Classes/schools will be quarantined when advised by RCHD. In the event of a closure, RPS will continue instruction virtually.
Will staff and students be required to receive COVID-19 vaccination?
Yes, RPS Staff are required to be vaccinated by October 1, 2021. Please email the Talent Office with any questions. To protect yourself and others, RPS encourages all families and students aged 12 and above to receive a vaccine as soon as possible.
What will the daily schedule look like next year?
Sample teacher schedules for Preschool-12 in person learning as well as Preschool-5 virtual learning will be available in July. Sample schedules for Virtual Virginia, an external partner that RPS will use to offer virtual learning to middle and high school students, can be found here.
What kind of professional learning will be offered during the 2021-2022 school year?
RPS will provide school-based instructional coaching and support with integrating technology in teaching and learning practices as well as division-wide professional learning experiences that equip teachers with the tools, resources, and strategies needed to effectively teach.
Will there be an opportunity for teachers to return to the school building to prepare their classrooms prior to the start of the academic year?
Yes, principals will be sharing school opening procedures this summer.
Will teachers still be able to use their RPS issued laptop at home?
Yes, teachers will continue to be able to use their RPS issued laptop at home as well as in the school buildings.
My RPS issued laptop does not work. How do I make a request for repairs or replacement?
Employees who need support with hardware or software technology should contact Technology Services by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 780-7880 option 1. Please have your six digit employee ID available for verification purposes. Please be prepared to provide (Name, Location, Asset Tag, Contact #, Issue description).
What digital instructional resources will be available to teachers?
Teachers should visit the RPSTech.org site for instructional resources available to and recommended for teachers.

If I have to be quarantined for exposure to COVID-19 or testing positive to COVID-19, will I have to use my personal sick leave or will leave with pay still be available?
If you are required to quarantine or you have tested positive for COVID-19, leave with pay is available through September 30, 2021; afterward, employees will need to use personal sick leave.

Mental health support is provided through our Cigna Employee Assistance Program. To access it, call 877-622-4327 or visit www.mycigna.com. “RPS” (without the quotes) is our Employer ID.
Where can I get mental help support for someone not covered by our plan?
The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) provides support to anyone in Richmond. Please call 804-819-4000 for assistance.
What should I do if I know someone who is thinking about harming themselves?
Please immediately call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or visit www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
Will teachers who transfer to the Richmond Virtual Academy be able to retain their physical classroom spaces?
No, teachers who transfer to the RPS Virtual Academy will not be assigned to a physical school.
What happens to my job if the Richmond Virtual Academy doesn’t exist after the 2021-2022 school year?
RPS teachers assigned to the Richmond Virtual Academy in 2021-2022 will retain their tenure and rights as a RPS teacher after the school year.
Will the salary and benefits be the same for Richmond Virtual Academy employees?
Yes. virtual teachers will have the same salary and benefits as all other teachers.
