We Start Careers

Principal's Message

  • Principal Jonathan Mitchum

Welcome and thank you for visiting Richmond Technical Center, where "We staRT Careers!".

My commitment to Richmond Technical Center is to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the twenty-first century. The ultimate goal of our school is to prepare students to flourish in high skill, high wage, high demand careers.

This past year we proudly ushered students to their next destination whether employment or education, including placements at Newport News Shipyard, Medical College of Virginia, Rolls Royce, the United States Army, the United States Air Force, and several local community colleges and universities.  I am extremely proud of the strong partnerships we hold with stakeholders as we work together in a collaborative and respectful manner.

High standards and expectations for each student in regards to academic performance, co-curricular participation, and responsible citizenship are the foundation of our school. It is with pride that I hold these high standards and ask each of our students to commit to maintaining the extraordinary record of achievement and contribution that has been the legacy of Richmond Technical Center students. It is the contribution of our students to our school community that makes Richmond Technical Center an exceptional learning community.

Prepare well for upcoming tests this semester, and please be Safe. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know that my door is always open. I can be reached at I am honored to serve as your principal.

  • RPS Direct Update - June 21, 2021

Dear #RPSStrong Family, My apologies for coming to you later than usual tonight – we just wrapped up John Marshall's graduation ceremony at The Diamond! That was our third one of the day: this morning was Huguenot HS and this afternoon was Open HS. All three were all absolutely fantastic (see below for some pix of our valedictorians). Big shout out to Principal Gilstrap, Principal Carleton, Principal Murray, and our Chief Schools Officer, Harry Hughes, for planning and executing beautiful ceremonies! And, of course, congratulations to our amazing, pandemic-defying graduates.
