    I would like to welcome everyone to the 2020-2021 school year!

    I am Sheleta Crews and I am truly excited to serve as the Principal of Southampton Elementary School for eight years. I am committed to ensuring that we have high expectations forall students which will assist them in reaching their highest potential. When parents, teachers, and community members combine all our efforts, I know that we will be successful.

    I am requesting your support throughout this virtual school year. Continue to build relationships with the staff of Southampton Elementary to help us thrive!

    To my students, it is my pleasure to be your principal as we exhibit excellence each and every day. It is my honor to lead a staff that is dedicated to educating our students.

    Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Friday! Tonight's updates: RPS in the News! – Many thanks to Ronald Carrington of the Richmond Free Press for shining a spotlight on our amazing teacher of the year, Ashley Bland, and for featuring the work of our Engagement Office! More Facilities Updates – Not only are we making health and safety upgrades throughout our schools, but we're also working to ensure that our students return to beautiful spaces that are conducive to learning. Check out this gorgeous mural at Blackwell Preschool created by local artist and frequent RPS collaborator Hamilton Glass.

Vision Screenings – Conexus for Children’s Vision is providing free vision screenings for kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 10th grade students tomorrow, May 14, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, at Huguenot High School.   • RPS Summer Learning Olympics

    This program is FREE for RPS students. Meals and transportation will be provided.

    • July 12, 2021 - August 13, 2021
    • In-person Mon - Thurs, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm,
    • Friday is all virtual
    • Registration: April 30 - May 28, 2021

    Pre-K

    The Preschool Summer Water Olympics Camp will provide opportunities for preschoolers to learn new skills, make friends, retain skills learned during the school year, and prepare for the next grade-level. The program will run July 12 - August 13, 2021, Monday - Thursday. Virtual field trips will be held on Fridays. Students will receive academic instruction in the morning from RPS teachers, and enrichment classes in the afternoon. Virtual field trips will be held on Fridays. Meals and transportation will be provided.

    Kindergarten - 2nd Grade 

    Go for Gold is for students who have been identified as needing additional support in foundational reading skills including: Letter Names, Letter Sounds, Phonics, and Writing. Mornings will be focused on Literacy and Social Emotional Connections. Math concepts are embedded using children's literature with opportunities to practice skills. Students will also practice school routines, participate in fine arts and physical activities daily. In the afternoon, students will participate in a variety of enrichment activities such as cooking, dance, and sports just to name a few! Virtual field trips will be held on Fridays. Meals and transportation will be provided.

    3rd Grade - 5th Grade

    Power Scholars Academy is designed to help advance students’ academic achievement through a full-day of challenging math and reading instruction;. Additionally, students will experience fun arts, science, technology, and a variety of enrichment activities. Power Scholars is offered through a collaboration between Richmond Public Schools, The YMCA of Greater Richmond and BellXcel. Virtual field trips will be held on Fridays. Meals and transportation will be provided.

    Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessments are approaching and we want families to understand their options when it comes to testing. To review options and let us know of your intentions for the Spring SOL assessments, please visit www.rvaschools.net/sol and complete the survey by April 17, 2021.

    Welcome to Southampton! We are excited for you to become a member of the Southampton family. 
     
    Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year opens April 1, 2021. This will include enrollment for both preschoolers (ages 3-4) and kindergarteners. Please follow the links below for more information on enrolling your student.

  • 2021 RPS Virtual Tutoring Program

    RPS will offer flexible virtual tutoring options for students in grades kindergarten-8 at no cost to RPS families!

    Families can pick from times before and after school to be paired with an RPS teacher for reading and math tutoring. All tutors are certified RPS teachers including LIEP and Exceptional Education teachers.

  • #ReopenWithLove2.0 - RPS is excited to offer students the choice of in-person or virtual learning for the upcoming fall school year. Students choosing virtual instruction must complete the Virtual Enrollment Form (Formulario de intención de instrucción virtual) by June 1, 2021.   • Vaccine Opportunity for RPS Families & Staff - On Wednesdays, you can walk up to George Wythe High School (4314 Crutchfield Street) from 11am-4pm and get the COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment. All walk-up events at George Wythe will offer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is authorized for individuals age 18 and older. Click here to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine.
