What is Goal 8? Goal 8 calls for a decrease in chronic absenteeism – overall and for each subgroup. Subgroups for this goal include race, economic status, ELL status, and IEP status. Chronic absenteeism is defined as a student missing 10% or more of the school year for any reason.   

How will we measure chronic absenteeism below? We will use the same measure as the VDOE. The VDOE measures chronic absenteeism by dividing the total number of students who miss 10% or more of the school year by the total number of students in the end-of-year membership. Students are included in the end-of-year membership if they are enrolled for at least half the school year.
