Health & Physical Education
The Instructional vision of Richmond Public Schools' Health & Physical Education department is to offer a sequential K-12, standards-based health and physical education program and to actively promote lifelong learning through physical activity, exercise, & sport while supporting students in making health-conscious decisions, meeting challenges, and participating in social and mental positive behaviors.
Through partnerships within and beyond RPS, the Health and Physical Education department is furthering the academic, physical and emotional growth of our students. Our mission is to develop capacity for students, teachers and the school community in three primary focus areas: inclusive sports, STEM in PE, and Academic VHSL programs.
We are developing and implementing initiatives focused on inclusive sports (Little Feet Meet), leadership and education opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities in all grades.
STEM in PE
We implement STEM in PE by incorporating physical movement into lessons is seeing the effects it has on the retention and understanding of important science and math concepts.
We will expand beyond Athletics by collaborating on building Academic VHSL programs in partnership with ELA, 21-22 SY Academic teams in Broadcasting, Creative Writing, Debate, Forensics, Theatre, and Yearbook.
