Literacy

Our Vision is to create a vibrant culture of literacy that cultivates a joy for reading, writing, and learning and inspires stakeholders to contribute to and participate in the overall success of our students.

Focus Areas

The RPS Literacy department is developing the capacity of our students, teachers and the school community through the implementation of our 2021 Literacy Plan Initiative. We are committed to fostering growth in three primary focus areas: small group learning, data-driven instruction, and professional learning.

Data-driven Instruction

We are using data to drive instruction through grades K to 12, including: checklists and data trackers in elementary grades, monitoring progress and scaffolds in middle school and progress monitoring for reteaching opportunities at the high school level.

Small Group Learning

We are increasing our coaches' capacity to scaffold instruction and refine the structures of small groups with regard to literacy instruction.

Professional Learning

We provide professional learning to build teacher knowledge about the curriculum with an emphasis on student learning targets, planning, small group instruction,  access to diverse texts and cultural responsiveness through texts.
