Future Centers

The mission of Future Centers is to facilitate student success, build a future-focused culture, and ensure every student leaves high school with an actionable postsecondary plan.

What are Future Centers?
Future Centers are school-based advising hubs located in each of Richmond’s five comprehensive high schools, with satellite services at specialty and alternative schools. Each center is staffed by a dedicated Future Center Navigator, who works closely with the school counseling team to design, organize, and deliver career and college readiness programming.

Launched in 2015 as a joint initiative of the City of Richmond Office of Community Wealth Building and the Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation, Future Centers provide students with the tools and guidance to turn one day dreams into day one plans.

What do Future Centers do?
Future Centers connect students and families to a wide range of supports, including:

  • College & Career Advising: One-on-one planning for postsecondary pathways.

  • Community Connections: Partnerships with universities, military recruiters, employers, and nonprofits to expand opportunities.

  • Skill Building: Workshops on financial aid, scholarships, job readiness, and college applications.

  • Events & Exposure: College tours, career fairs, corporate visits, and recruiter access.

Why Future Centers Matter

Future Centers ensure every RPS student - regardless of background - has access to the people, resources, and opportunities they need to graduate ready for college, career, or military service. They are not just advising offices; they are bridges between high school and what comes next.
