Paying for College
A Scholarship is monetary assistance with the tuition and fees that may be associated with college attendance. It is up to students to search for many of their own scholarships along with those that may come through the school. Students will often have to apply for scholarships by certain deadlines.
Financial Aid is funding a college/university will offer you to assist with the cost of attendance. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be completed to receive financial aid. Financial Aid deadlines can be found on the colleges/universities websites. See what date you must file by and designate the school to receive the information.
In addition to the FAFSA, various college or universities may also require completion of the CSS Profile. The CSS Profile is for students to apply for nonfederal financial aid. View CSS Profile participating schools.

Need Assistance with the Forms and Scholarship Searches
GRASP Advisors, are available to help with this process. Make an appointment. They are available in every RPS high school to include specialty schools. Great Aspirations Scholarship Program offers FAFSA and CSS Profile filing assistance to students and families on Wednesday evening at the Belmont Library from 6-8pm. GRASP Financial Aid Advisors help students and families with financial aid and scholarships so students can make their higher education goals a reality. Great Aspirations Scholarship Program, Inc. (GRASP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable, college-access organization that assists Virginia’s students and families in reaching their educational goals for after high school. Founded in 1983 by Senator Walter Stosch, a longtime advocate for children, and Dr. Ray Gargiulo, a career educator, the nonprofit fulfilled the need for assisting and advising students in the development of an educational plan for after high school.
