Principal's Message

  • Principal Moore

Dear Barack Obama Star Students, Parents, and Staff,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year, and welcome back to the Barack Obama Elementary School building! Last year was unlike any other we have had before; spending the year learning virtually due to COVID-19.  It was challenging, but I am so proud of the hard work that all of you did to make the year successful.  However, one thing that never changed was the support the administration and faculty of Barack Obama Elementary provided to our students and their families, and how deeply we care about the safety and health of your children.

We’re excited to make the 2021-2022 school year one of our best yet as we welcome new families and continue fostering positive relationships with returning ones. At Barack Obama Elementary, we strive to provide productive, innovative, and rewarding learning experiences for each student in a safe and nurturing environment.

In order for this school year to be successful, parental support will be key to your child’s achievement. As the school year begins, I would like to remind everyone how vitally important it is for students to attend school every day. I know that the new daily schedule may cause some concerns initially, but numerous absences equal lost instruction time and we want our Obama Stars to shine.  Please assist us in this endeavor. The lines of communication remain open and we are readily available for assistance to ensure optimum success for students.

The safety of our children is and will continue to be one of our top priorities. The 2021-2022 Barack Obama Elementary Parent and Student Handbook has been posted and outlines our routines and procedures.

I know this school year will be look a little different, but together we can make it a great year.  We are so grateful to have the students back in person and thank you for making Barack Obama Elementary the best school in Richmond!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Jennifer K. Moore

    Principal, Barack Obama Elementary

  • RPS Direct Update - September 24, 2021

Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Fall Friday! Tonight's updates: Richmond Virtual Academy (RVA) Waitlist Update – Please note the following: By next Friday, October 1, we will notify all preschool-5th grade families of their status – whether offered a seat or not – via the email address they used to register their student/s on the waitlist. In the interest of fairness, we are using a randomized selection process to identify students for the limited number of available seats. As I shared last week, there are unfortunately no more virtual seats for middle and high school students. Any family who is already enrolled in virtual can switch to in-person at any time by completing the Switch Pathways Form (Formulario de Cambio de Decisión).
