Mr. Jonathan Mitchum
Mr. Mitchum is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. He received his B.A. degree in music from Virginia Union University, his master’s degree in music education from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia, and his post-master’s certificate in educational leadership (administration and supervision) from Virginia Commonwealth University. As RTC's Assistant Principal "with the gentle soul of a musician," he handles disciplinary issues with a deft touch. His guiding philosophy is summed up in the words of Dr. Madeline Hunter: "Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Mr. Mitchum models his belief that students need to feel known, liked and respected before they can accept instruction and direction. He leads teachers in establishing and maintaining a positive tone in the classroom and expects them to prepare and present quality instruction. He holds himself to the same high standards and integrity that he expects of others. His daily mantra: "Always professional, never personal."
