    CIS at Fairfield Court Elementary

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  It’s been such a joy to see the smiling faces of our returning students and to meet our newest Fairfield Eagles!  I serve as Fairfield Court Elementary’s Communities In Schools Site Coordinator.  The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  I am part of a network of Communities In Schools of Richmond Site Coordinators, serving more than forty elementary, middle, high, and Performance Learning Centers in the City of Richmond and the County of Henrico.

As CIS Site Coordinator, I work collaboratively with students, parents, school faculty, and community partners to build a foundation for academic success, healthy students, and strong families.  If your student or family has a need, I am here to provide support.

Fairfield Court Elementary is supported by many community partners (click here for a detailed list!).  With the support of these partners, the CIS Site Coordinator (Ms.Blevins) coordinates and/or connects students and families to a wide variety of supports ranging from:

    • Small Group Opportunities: To meet specific student needs including grief groups for children who have experienced the death of a loved one and support groups for children experiencing parental incarceration.
    • Basic Needs Resources: Clothing, shoes, food assistance, school supplies, and holiday assistance programs.
    • Enrichment Opportunities: After-school programs, weekend enrichment, summer camps, field trips, parent engagement events, etc.
    • Transition Programming: Kindergarten welcome visits, annual Kindergarten Registration Day, and middle school transition programming to support students during key periods of transition.
    • Attendance Initiatives: Individualized attendance support, “Walking School Bus,” and school-wide attendance incentives to promote student attendance.
    • Volunteer Coordination: Training, orientation, and matching of volunteers serving as Classroom Assistants, Mentors, Lunch Buddies, and more!
    • Annual Content of Our Character Awards: An annual, formal event that recognizes Fairfield Court Elementary students who exemplify commendable character on a daily basis.
    • …and MORE!

Throughout the school year, you will receive information from me.  You’ll know that it’s from me because it will be marked with the CIS logo at the top of this page.  Please take a close look at the resources available and if your student could benefit from participation, I encourage you to return the completed information.  As always, I invite you to contact me if you have questions or if I can provide support.

Wishing you all the best for a happy, productive school year!
