INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES
At times situations occur that force the school division to alter the regular schedule of schools. In the event of inclement weather or other emergency situations, check the Richmond Public School’s website and stay tuned to local television and radio for instructions regarding the status of school.
A decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. Please listen to radio and television announcements for details.
SCHOOL CRISIS CODES
Code Red = Crisis Condition, Return Students to Class and Secure
Code Red Check = Bomb Threat Procedures
Code Orange = Report to Shelter in Place
Code Yellow = School Crisis Team Assemble at Designated Location
Code Green = Return to Normal Operations
Code Blue = Exit School due to Emergency: Take Fire Exit Route
FIRE DRILL AND EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS
- According to state law, the school is required to have at least one (1) fire drill per week for the first month of school and at least one (I) per month for the remainder of the school year.
- As the fire drill signal sounds, students should take their personal possessions with them to the assigned area. Students will remain outside the building until they are given verbal instructions to return to the classroom by their teacher. Students should stand quietly and listen for any instruction from their teachers.
- Please refer to the Crisis Information chart for specific guidelines pertaining to emergency situations.
No students are to remain inside the building during a fire drill or evacuation!!
OTHER EMERGENCY DRILLS
Lockdown Drills
In every public school there shall be at least two lock-down drills every school year in order that students may be thoroughly practiced in such drills. One lock-down drill shall be completed in September of each school year and one lock-down drill shall be completed in January of each school year.

Doors closed and locked
Remain in place until all clear (code green)
Tornado Drills
In every public school there shall be at least one tornado drill every school year in order that students may be thoroughly practiced in such drills.

Code Orange—Shelter in Place
Students brought to basement quickly and safely
Teachers remain with students in their class
Remain in place until all clear (code green)
