My passion for helping others was really cultivated at the University of Virginia. Whether it was volunteering as a Big Sister to middle school girls or assisting my peers in UCS as a Career Peer Educator, I found myself drawn to service. I was  selected to join Virginia College Advising Corps where I served as an adviser to high-schoolers across Virginia and upon completion of this program, I joined RVA Future to continue the work of addressing the widening gap in college access for low income, first generation, and under-represented students. I am now going into my fourth year at Jayem and each day is an adventure and a truly humbling experience. I always look forward to hearing the dreams and goals of our students and that's why I love this job!

The goal of the Future Center is to ensure that all students graduate with a plan after high school. That plan can be attending a 4-year college or university, a 2-year junior or community college, a technical or trade school, enlisting in the military, or entering the workforce.  I also work with students in the following areas:

    ·         College Applications

    ·         Finding and applying for scholarships

    ·         Financial Aid

    ·         FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

    ·         Registering for the SAT and ACT

    ·         SAT & ACT fee waivers

    ·         Employment during high school or over the summer

    ·         Employment after high school

    ·         Summer enrichment opportunities

    ·         Essay writing workshops

    ·         Choosing a career pathway

    ·         Anything that has to do with the “next steps” after high school!

Let me know if you (student/parent/guardian) have any questions or concerns. I am here to help! I am at Jayem every day and after school on most days. Students are welcome any time with a pass! If you are a parent/guardian who would like to set up a meeting, please let me know!

I serve as the College Adviser for JMHS through College Advising Corps, a program that partners with Americorps and the University of Virginia.  As a recent graduate, I help students reach their post-secondary goals through near-peer advising.  My services are not limited to college; I also assist with career planning, trades, and the military.

A few ways I can help:  SAT/ACT registration, financial aid, college and trade aplications, employment applications, resume and essay writing, college and career decisions, and scholarships.  I am here as a resource not only for students but for faculty and parent/guardians, too!
