Principal's Message

  • Dr. Hampton Dear Maymont Preschool Family,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are delighted to have you as a member of the Maymont Preschool Family.  Our hope is that you have had an enjoyable and safe summer despite all the many changes we have had over the past few months.  What a profound change we’ve experienced in such a short time.

My years of experience in education began when I graduated from Virginia Union University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I also received a M.Ed. from Averett University while teaching. Lastly, I completed a doctoral program with a PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration.

I have over 15 years of educational experience as a classroom teacher, an Academic Interventionist, an Instructional Specialist, a Professional Development Specialist, and an Assistant Principal. My passion for education remains as strong as day one and I am now grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve as Principal of Maymont Preschool.

As a wife and mother of two children, I understand the importance of being a close-knit family and growing together. That is my goal for our students here at Maymont; to grow as a school family and excel together as we build upon every student’s academic and social skills. I am very excited about this opportunity to support your child, even in a virtual format. Preschool is an exciting time for children, and although we are not able to welcome you in person, we are glad that you will be joining us virtually.  Once we have our electronic devices, we will be able to share many warm smiles, laughs and exciting learning adventures face to face.

As we now know, school will not re-open until further notice; therefore, Richmond Public Schools is prepared to implement distance learning for all students, starting Tuesday, September 8th at 9:00 a.m. using a Google Meet link/conference call. Distance learning is defined as instruction in which the student and teacher are in different locations. It is important to note that distance learning includes a range of methods and strategies, not limited just to digital/online learning. Of course, by opening day, you would have spoken to your child’s teacher and the instructional assistant. Unfortunately, our initial contact will only be by video call or telephone, but before you know it, students will have their chromebooks (hopefully, by the end of September) and we can actively engage in fun learning activities that your child will enjoy. More information will be forthcoming about student chromebook distributions.

Teachers will connect with each of their students on a regular basis, prioritizing their time together to focus on relevant learning experiences and building positive relationships. For this to be effective, teachers and parents must work as a team to co-facilitate learning, design consistent routines, and establish a learning environment in which students can thrive. Preschool is your child’s first formal learning experience and we plan to make it as enjoyable as possible.

Our unique journey together has just begun, so please be ready to keep adjusting in the weeks ahead. We appreciate your patience, support, and grace as we move forward together on this virtual journey.  Please be sure to follow us on facebook, instagram, and twitter to access our weekly updates.

Again, I am beyond elated to be working with your family. Thank you for your continued support of Maymont Preschool, the home of the Mighty & Resilient Peacocks! Happy School Year!

    Respectfully,

    Victoria Modupeola Hampton
