Principal's Welcome Letter

  • Greetings, Blackwell Preschool Families!

As we #ReopenWithLove and forge new pathways into a virtual world of learning, we have an exciting opportunity to help our youngest students thrive.

My name is Dr. Elaine Probst and this work is deeply personal for me. I am not just a leader in this moment, I am a person learning new things with you. I am a wife, a mother, an educator, and a woman of color who has faced many challenges on my journey to this place.

My journey here was not easy—coming from poverty, a lack of opportunity at times, and a math learning disability that could not and would not stop my drive to achieve. I believe that my resolve to solve problems and my attitude to accentuate the positive will help all of us this school year.

Learning this year will look different than it has in the past. Children and teachers will be working from home--for at least the first semester. We can worry about the challenges this presents, or we can celebrate the fact that we have the tools and technology to keep learning together! We will make sure you and your children have the resources and supports necessary to be successful in our virtual classrooms.

This year, we must all work extra hard for the good of our children. We must work together to make sure our children are learning new and wonderful things each and every day. We must make sure that at the end of this school year, our children are not just ready for success in Kindergarten, but prepared for a bright and successful future.

I want to offer a sincere thank you to each one of you for selecting Blackwell Preschool Center for your child’s educational experience. You are your child’s first teacher, and we are honored to be joining with you as partners in the important work of teaching your child.

We are committed to the highest standards of safety and academic integrity, always placing children as our top priority. As the situation with COVID-19 continues to develop, we will remain proactive in our efforts to protect the health of our students, families, and staff.

Thank you for your patience as we move forward. Our award-winning staff has a wonderful year planned and we cannot wait to get started!

In preparation for the new beginnings, there are a few things I would like to bring to your attention.

    • As communities continue to struggle to navigate enormous changes in their day-to-day lives, we are committed to ensuring that our Blackwell community will receive the same amazing, child-centered level of service, dedication, and love.
    • All of our teachers are incredible and we are very pleased with the many returning teachers from last year, as well as the outstanding new teachers joining us!
    • We are excited to partner with parents and families as we embark on our virtual learning year.
    • The first day of school for ALL students is Tuesday, September 8, 2020. ALL students need to be present during their assigned Virtual Meeting block to be counted as enrolled.

It is going to be an especially amazing, awesome year at Blackwell! I am so excited for my first official year as principal, with a vision to strengthen and grow our school into greatness.

    With warmest regards,

    Elaine Probst, Ed.D.
