Mrs. Kara Lancaster-Gay
Kara Lancaster-Gay is an enthusiastic educator committed to building, facilitating, and sustaining quality, successful learning communities through collaboration, high expectations and motivation. This year she initiated the "FAMILY" Concept through-out the school community to build strong ties of connectivity, collaboration and engagement with all stakeholders. Each Family has a theme that they must learn about, share with others & exemplify the characteristic(s). They include Care, Collaboration, Consideration, Courage, Endurance, Enthusiasm, Excellence, Harmony, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility &Trust. Her brain child has been instrumental in improving school climate, student's positive interactions, building-wide relationships and parent engagement!
She is a Servant Leader with extensive experience in education as a classroom teacher and presently Administrator & Principal of Overby-Sheppard Elementary School. Mrs. Lancaster-Gay is a sought after speaker & has been guest lecturer for aspiring educators and administrators at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. Her leadership style and work ethic is not only evident in education; she also espouses the same qualities through extensive community service & with her church family.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University – VCU, and has served on elementary and secondary levels as speech pathologist, taught exceptional education & talented & gifted education.
Mrs. Lancaster-Gay is a transformative an innovative leader that instills in students and staff that high expectations are required to achieve our Goals and that Overby-Sheppard Elementary School is "Taking Flight" (Focus. Love. Grit. High Expectation. Teamwork). She daily espouses the "212 Degree(s)" & "Whatever It Takes" Philosophies and strongly believes in and utilizes Collaboration & Team Building as key instructional and management tools. Under her leadership, the execution of these philosophies and tools are proving to effectively reduce the achievement gap. She motivates her Dedicated Team to WIN! #KidsDeserveIt!
