School Partnerships

  • "Boys In Blue" Mentorship Program with the Richmond Police Department

Swansboro Elementary School, in partnership with Catapult Learning, has joined forces with the Richmond Police Department in an endeavor to create sustainable connections, foster lifelong memories, and provide opportunities for hope and positive future relations with the youngest citizens in our community through an innovative program called Boys in Blue. Boys in Blue is a mentorship program designed to inspire academic achievement, enhance the self-efficacy and self-concept of young male students, and instill pride in our community.

Students will engage in monthly lunches with RPD’s officers, discuss barriers to academic and behavioral success, as well as talk about the concerns that that they may have surrounding the communities in which they reside. This mentorship program will not only assist our male population in becoming better students, but will work to strengthen the perceptions that they may have about the role of police officers, and hopefully, begin the early work of building trusting partnerships that will benefit our community for years to come.

    Richmond Jewish Coalition for Literacy

The Richmond Jewish Coalition for Literacy (RJCL) brings mentors to Swansboro Elementary School to work with students at least once a week for an hour or more. All new mentors receive training, so each volunteer is well-equipped to help the at-risk child with whom he or she is matched. Mentors typically spend their time at the schools reading with the student, tutoring the student in a subject with which he or she is having difficulty, working on homework, and sometimes just listening to the child. All of these activities make a tremendous difference in the lives of the young people with whom the mentors are matched.

    Reveille United Methodist Church

Reveille United Methodist Church has a long standing relationship with Swansboro Elementary, mentoring our students and collaborating on special events such as Dr. Seuss's Birthday/Read Across America Event. We are grateful for partnerships such as this, that keep Swansboro strong and thriving.
