After School Care
For the 2022-23 school year, RPS will return to a model where partners provide traditional aftercare through a fee-for-service model. In addition, RPS will use its limited federal dollars to provide funding to schools to develop their own out-of-school-time academic enrichment programs to meet their unique needs (after school, before school, Saturdays, etc.). Funding distribution will be based on school enrollment with additional supplements for schools with greater needs as evidenced by achievement data.
Elementary and Preschool Aftercare

For the upcoming school year, the City of Richmond is coordinating aftercare in all elementary schools in partnership with the YMCA and Richmond's Parks and Recreation Department. Aftercare will run Monday through Friday until 6 pm. Due to limited funding this year, aftercare is not free, space is limited, and transportation home will not be provided. However, both the YMCA and Parks & Recreation can provide financial aid and full scholarships. To sign up, please contact your school to get the registration information. Please note, aftercare for preschoolers will begin on September 12, and will depend on eligibility. Middle School Partner-Run Enrichment
RPS will be partnering once again with Higher Achievement, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond, and NextUp this fall for in-person after-school enrichments at all RPS middle schools. Registration is required. Families and students register directly with the organization serving their school. Operating schedules vary by partner organization with programming ending daily between 6 pm and 7pm. Snacks and dinner are provided. At this time, RPS is not able to provide transportation, but NextUp is working with the organizations and schools to leverage any available buses and private transportation options.
