Facilities Condition Assessments
During the spring and summer of 2024, Richmond Public Schools conducted its first facility condition assessments for all properties in the RPS portfolio. This audit of every building represents a vital first step before repairing or rebuilding our physical infrastructure, and providing all students and staff the modern facilities necessary for education. Our facilities are the consequence of decades of disinvestment in RPS and its students, but now, we are writing our blueprint for the future.
Each report below contains an executive summary, which highlights key findings and includes a Facility Condition Index as a basis for comparing the relative conditions of the buildings within the RPS property portfolio. Cost estimates are provided in the report for “Immediate Costs” and “Replacement Reserves” based on the observed conditions, maintenance history, and industry standard useful life estimates.

Join the Capital Improvement Committee
The Operations team will convene a Capital Improvement Committee of RPS stakeholders to meet quarterly and develop a Master Facilities Plan for the next 10 years using the information outlined in the Facility Condition Assessments. The Administration will present a draft of the plan for Board consideration in the fall of 2025.
