Thank you for visiting the RPS Department of Safety and Security. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality academic curriculum and learning environment to all students. The achievement of this goal depends heavily on maintaining a safe and nurturing environment within our schools. Our highly trained Care and Safety Associates and other staff serves as a source of information, assistance and guidance to students, parents, teachers, and staff as well as a link to support services within the community.
We believe safety directly impacts the effective learning environment that our district supports. It is our goal to maintain an environment that embraces success allowing students to achieve. We reach this goal by building strong relationships, promoting positive student behavior in and out of schools, working closely with the community, local law enforcement and emergency management officials. School safety is everyone’s responsibility! What are you doing to ensure schools are safe?
RPS Department of Care and Safety provides the following services:
- Assigned to select schools during the school day
- Monitor entrances and screen visitors
- Provide visibility
- Provide assistance and direction to students
- After School/Athletic Event Coverage
- Reminder, no weapons of any kind are allowed at school events.
- School Security Audits
- Emergency Management
- Ensure all DCJS and State Law mandates are being followed
- Presentations to groups or organizations about school security procedures
- Please contact the office to request a speaker
- Raptor Visitor Management System
- Raptor is our system that all visitors and volunteers are required to use
- The system compares the visitors information with databases that would identify people that could possibly be barred from school grounds
UPDATE ON RPS/RPD MOU
As approved by the General Assembly and signed into law by the governor in 2020, our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with our valued partners at the Richmond Police Department is to be reviewed every two years. The current MOU can be found here. We are beginning the process of reviewing our agreement with the Police Department that outlines the roles and responsibilities of both agencies. If you are interested in providing input on the MOU please complete the Google Form by Friday, May 16, 2025.
