Thank you for visiting the RPS Department of Safety and Security. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality academic curriculum and learning environment to all students. The achievement of this goal depends heavily on maintaining a safe and nurturing environment within our schools. Our highly trained Care and Safety Associates and other staff serves as a source of information, assistance and guidance to students, parents, teachers, and staff as well as a link to support services within the community. 

We believe safety directly impacts the effective learning environment that our district supports. It is our goal to maintain an environment that embraces success allowing students to achieve. We reach this goal by building strong relationships, promoting positive student behavior in and out of schools, working closely with the community, local law enforcement and emergency management officials. School safety is everyone’s responsibility! What are you doing to ensure schools are safe?

RPS Department of Care and Safety provides the following services: 

• Assigned to select schools during the school day
  • Monitor entrances and screen visitors
  • Provide visibility 
  • Provide assistance and direction to students
• After School/Athletic Event Coverage
  • Reminder, no weapons of any kind are allowed at school events.
• School Security Audits
• Emergency Management
  • Ensure all DCJS and State Law mandates are being followed
• Presentations to groups or organizations about school security procedures 
  • Please contact the office to request a speaker
• Raptor Visitor Management System
  • Raptor is our system that all visitors and volunteers are required to use
  • The system compares the visitors information with databases that would identify people that could possibly be barred from school grounds

Parking for Student Drivers

To comply with § 22.1-205.1 of the Code of Virginia, any public high school student who wishes to park a vehicle on school property must provide evidence of a valid driver's license or driver's privilege card. Therefore, it is now mandatory for all students who plan to drive to school and park on campus to complete the designated parking application. This ensures that we maintain a safe and organized parking environment for everyone within our school community.

To obtain a parking permit, please follow these steps:

1. Fill out the parking application form accurately (English)(Spanish) and ensure that both the student and parent/guardian signatures are included.
2. Submit the completed application form along with a copy or photo of your driver’s license to your school's front office.

By adhering to these requirements, we can effectively manage student parking and maintain a secure environment for all. Please note that failure to comply with the parking application process may result in restrictions on driving and parking privileges on school property.
