• Note: Much of the history of the Richmond Public Schools was recorded in the context of a segregated society, and the reader should readily discern between pre- and post-desegregation observations. The terms "black," "colored," "Negro," and "white" in this booklet should not be considered offensive as they have been used according to the custom of the particular period. Since 1962, the division has omitted such racial designations from its reports and publications.

Chandler Special Education/Vocational Center

  • 201 East Brookland Park Boulevard

During the 1973-74 session, the Chandler Building was converted to Chandler Special Education Center. (The EMR students were housed at Webster Davis until January 1974, when space became available at Chandler through the relocation of the middle school program to Henderson.) All secondary EMR students from Webster Davis and Randolph were then transferred to Chandler.

In 1975, Chandler became a vocational (rehabilitation) center. From 1977-80, Northside Alternative Middle School and Chandler Vocational Center operated at Chandler under the same administration.
