Note: Much of the history of the Richmond Public Schools was recorded in the context of a segregated society, and the reader should readily discern between pre- and post-desegregation observations. The terms "black," "colored," "Negro," and "white" in this booklet should not be considered offensive as they have been used according to the custom of the particular period. Since 1962, the division has omitted such racial designations from its reports and publications.
Northside Alternative Middle School
201 East Brookland Park Boulevard
Northside Alternative Middle School offered a basic program with relevancy to the "real world," intensified through the infusion of a strong career education base and a strong involvement with the community (in particular, experiences with the world of work).
From 1977-80, Northside Alternative Middle School and Chandler Vocational Center operated under the same administration at the Chandler Building. In 1980, these programs were succeeded by the Career Exploratory Middle School (CEMS).
