Keeping The Dream Alive!

Principal Dabney

  • Principal Inez Dabney

Hello, students, parents, guardians and stakeholders,

As we continue to maneuver the ups and downs of virtual learning, I am so proud of the way our students and staff have met this challenge head on. If we are nothing else at MLK, we are resilient as a school community.

Parents/guardians, please continue to encourage your child(ren) to be fully engaged in each classroom. We would love for each student to be on camera daily, however, this is an option for students. Our teachers continue to provide engaging and rigorous instruction to prepare of students for high school and higher education. I am truly amazed by the assignment and activities that our teachers have created in the virtual setting. The A.T.O.M. STEM Academy will be installing the SMART Lab by January 2021. This will allow the expansion of the STEM Program even further.

Educating our students is a collaborative effort between students, parent/guardians, teachers, and the community. Just as the African proverb states, It takes a village to raise a child.

As a school will we continue to support our students, academically, mentally and socially.  Students participate in Community Circles and mindfulness moments daily. This is one way for students to keep connected to their teachers and classmates. The new schedule offers a flex –time, where students will be able to receive additional support from 3:30 -4:30 pm, Monday –Tuesday and Thursday – Friday.  If any student needs support in any of these areas, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me by email or contact the school.

Until we return to the building, the staff and our community partners are here to assist our students as needed.

Thank you for supporting MLK, home of the Mighty Titans!

    Sincerely, Principal Dabney

Is your child interested in attending college? Not sure where to start looking? Or how to begin the process? Well the answer is here! Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. "RPS Direct" Emails from Superintendent Kamras

  • RPS Direct Update - September 17, 2021

Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Friday! Tonight's updates: Mask Reminders – Parents and caregivers, please be sure students have their masks on when approaching and boarding the school bus. This helps ensure a safe and speedy boarding process. Please also make sure to send your students with a mask that fits their face. Adult size masks are not appropriate for small children, as they do not fit tightly (see CDC graphic below). If you need pediatric masks, your school can provide them. Thank you for helping keep RPS safe! COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate – RPS employees, please be reminded that you have until October 1 to submit full proof of vaccination or obtain a religious/medical exemption. Though I pray it doesn't come to this, please understand that any employee who does not meet the requirements of the mandate will face progressive discipline, including loss of employment.

  • RPS Direct Update - September 15, 2021

Dear #RPSStrong Family, While we've been overjoyed to return to school despite COVID, we've also been heartbroken by another pandemic that plagues our community – gun violence. I'm devastated to share that, in the past 48 hours, five RPS students have been shot. We've also lost two students to other causes (unrelated to gun violence or COVID). These tragic events remind us of the grief and trauma that so many RPS students, families, and staff face daily. The RPS family is hurting tonight. Let us all pause this evening to check on one another, support one another, and extend grace and love to one another.
