Richmond Eagles Basketball
Students from Amelia Street participate as part of the Richmond Eagles basketball team which is composed of moderately intellectually disabled students from RPS High Schools (John Marshall, George Wythe, Armstrong, and Huguenot). Our students work the sidelines and take care of out-of-bounds ball. Students also participate as cheerleaders. The season begins with practice starting in November and ends with games in March.
The team was started by Mr. Tenbrook and Mr. Squire many years ago. Soon the team started playing other schools in what came to be known as the Medford League. Today, we play other teams from the Richmond metropolitan area High Schools such as Lee Davis, Highland Springs, Henrico, and Virginia Randolph.
The end of the playing season is celebrated with an awards banquet held in May each year.
