Dear #RPSStrong Family, Happy Friday! Tonight's Updates: This Week's Fall Reopening "See It to Believe It" Installment – All of our custodians recently received hands-on training for new equipment that will help us keep our buildings clean and healthy for students and staff. The equipment included: Ride-on and Walk-behind Scrubbers - As previously shared, the scrubbers will allow custodians to safely and more efficiently clean floors, freeing them up to focus on other COVID-19 cleaning protocols. HEPA Vacuum Cleaners - These vacuum cleaners help reduce dust, allergens, and other particulates, improving air quality for students and staff. Kaivac No-Touch Bathroom Cleaning Machines - These machines combine an indoor pressure washer, chemical injection, and a wet vacuum into a single space-efficient platform. The results are sparkling clean bathrooms without ever touching a contaminated surface. Propane Burnishers – These are floor polishing devices powered by propane. They're designed to rotate at speeds in excess of 1200-1800 RPM to seal wax to the floor, creating a shiny, brand new look.

  • RPS Direct Update - June 1, 2021

Dear #RPSStrong Family, I hope you all had a peaceful weekend and found your own personal way to honor those who have fallen in defense of our country. Yesterday, The Washington Post ran a very interesting piece about the history of Memorial Day that's well worth the read. Tonight's updates: 2021 Scholastic Standouts – Congratulations to the 2021 RPS Scholastic Standouts! For the uninitiated, this is one of the most prestigious student awards in RPS. Every elementary school selects one 5th grader, every middle school selects one 8th grader, and every high school selects one senior based on academics, social-emotional leadership, and attendance. Inspired by John Templeton, a former editor at the Richmond Afro-American newspaper, the Scholastic Standout program has recognized over 1,600 RPS students since its inception in 1981. This year's virtual recognition ceremony will be streamed on the RPS Facebook, RPS en Español (in Spanish), and RPS YouTube pages starting at 6 pm on Thursday, June 10. Please join us to help celebrate these extraordinary RPS students!

We also have new electrostatic sprayers to disinfect our buses each day. Floyd Miles, our Director of Transportation, provides a demonstration in the video below. Take a look!

Dear #RPSStrong Family, With a heavy heart, I want to acknowledge the loss of yet another RPS student to gun violence. I am literally at a loss for words, except to ask that you please join me in extending our deepest condolences to the student's family and the entire Armstrong High School community. I also want to acknowledge the one-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. To mark this tragedy, and assess our progress as community since then, the RTD has run a series of insightful reflections from a variety of local voices. I encourage you to read them. I also want to draw everyone's attention to resources that the RPS team has collected for educators and parents on the topic of talking with young people about race, racism, and racialized violence.

Ride-on scrubbers and automatic walk-behind scrubbers will be available at all of our schools this fall.
