RPS High School Seniors Celebrate National Decision Day

This month, seniors across RPS are celebrating National Decision Day. Typically celebrated on or around May 1, Decision Day recognizes all high school seniors for their postsecondary plans, whether they plan to pursue postsecondary education or training, enlist in the military, or enter the workforce.

Over 200 seniors participated in Decision Day events hosted by RVA Future throughout the district. Since 2016, RVA Future has planned and hosted Decision Day activities annually in the five comprehensive high schools. The events include alumni panels, guest speakers and, most importantly, students’ sharing their plans for after graduation and celebrating with their classmates, teachers, and counselors.

"We are excited to celebrate our seniors across the district as they prepare to move onto the next phases of their lives,” said Tracy Brower, RVA Future Program Manager. “We support all of their decisions as they decide to go to college, to the military, to a trade school or straight into the workforce. Additionally, we 'd like to thank the local colleges and universities and our partners from VUU Talent Search, Partnership for the Future and GRASP for their support throughout the year and on Decision Day."

Around the country, college admissions generally observe May 1 as decision day, the date by which students must notify the college they plan to attend. Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative began a broader recognition of National Decision Day as a way to celebrate every student who has made a successful post-secondary plan.
