Teachers ONLY! ~ Teachers in the Movement project @ UVa details
This summer the Teachers in the Movement project at UVa (http://teachersinthemovement.com) will offer a weeklong institute June 9-14 on the role of teachers in the civil rights movement. The institute will include lectures and discussions about teachers' pedagogy and involvement in civil rights and social justice activities from the 1950s through the early 1970s and the workshop will address the challenges of teaching “difficult history.”
In the aftermath of August 11 and 12, 2017 in Charlottesville, this professional development workshop will offer a way for teachers to think critically about the legacy of the movement and the role teachers today might play in bringing about social change. Our guest lecturers will discuss how civil rights scholarship can be used in the classroom. The institute will also include training in using oral history in the classroom.
Please spread the word about the institute and share our flyer with your friends and colleagues.
