- Bellevue Elementary School
- Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2017 - 2018 school year at Bellevue Elementary School! Our school is a historic landmark in Richmond, Virginia. It is the former mansion location of Elizabeth Van Lew, a Union spy during the Civil War and is the birth site of Maggie Lena Walker, the first female Bank President in the United States! Thus, on behalf of the dedicated staff of educators and myself, we welcome you to add to the rich, profound history of our school. We consider it an honor to serve the students, families, and communities of Bellevue School! Our passion is developing and educating the great students at Bellevue. We are committed to ensuring that we provide a safe and nurturing teaching and learning environment for our students. We promote success for all students through high expectations and rigorous academic standards taught by caring and dedicated staff. We are committed to academic excellence.
We whole-heartedly believe that it “takes a village” to prepare students for productive citizenship and life in the 21st century. Therefore; together with our families and the community, our staff, and students, we can work together for the success of every child at Bellevue. We invite and strongly encourage parents to become involved in our school. When parents attend school functions and events, they demonstrate that they value school and education.
Bellevue Elementary continues to integrate the Community of Caring program which teaches and promotes the values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trust, and Family. This is a school-wide comprehensive character education program whereby staff and students are incorporating the core values into every aspect of the school day. We believe in developing the whole child. We have active and loyal support through our viable Parent Teacher Association, business and community partnerships and a wonderful host of volunteers.
Bellevue is a great place for students and a premier place for teaching and learning. Thank you for giving us the privilege of teaching your children, our greatest gift of the universe! Thank you for your support. Throughout the year, I welcome you to visit our school for yourself! Consider stopping by to have lunch or visit our museum, devoted to Elizabeth Van Lew and Maggie Lena Walker which also serves as a quiet place for teaching and learning. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or even compliments!
