Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

Hooray!  It is time for school to begin again!  We know some of you may be feeling that you are not ready for the routines, and over scheduled madness that often occupies our lives during the school year, but we are ready for laughter, children’s voices and LEARNING to fill this old school house for the 108th year!  It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year. Welcome back!  We give a warm welcome to the students and families who will be joining us for the first time. While you aren't part of the official teaching staff YOU are just as important to your children's education as we are.  Your children receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers and staff work as a team. It's a parent’s enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best, and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn. Together we can achieve wonderful things.

There's a lot of excitement ahead of us, including new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet and new skills to master...and we look forward to you sharing in these exciting times. You may have heard that RPS is undertaking a new re-zoning initiative to account for the opening of 3 new schools next Fall, decrease overcrowding in the schools south of the river, increase equity in the West end and increase building utilization in the schools North of the River.  While none of us know what is going to happen (including us), we want to acknowledge how difficult the rezoning process always is. I encourage EVERYONE to have an open mind and to keep abreast of the process by attending community meetings and/or following the re-zoning process through the RPS website:

As we begin this school year, you will continue to see familiar faces throughout the building as we welcome over 440 children to our school.  We have several staff changes this year. We know you will support our staff changes as we continue to meet the needs of all of our learners:

Best wishes go to our retirees who have moved onto the next phase in their lives:  Annie Campbell, 3rd grade teacher and Wyetta Sledge, front office attendance worker.  We also wish Caroline Conolly, Jen Ramachandran and Sandra Thompson best of luck as they have moved on from Fox to new endeavors. Please welcome our new front office associate/attendance worker, Georgette Williams; along with five new teachers to the Fox Staff:  Mary Claire Eck (3rd Grade) and Emily Hall (5th grade) are coming to us from James Madison University (Go Dukes!).  Sarabeth Kawugele (Kindergarten) joins us from St. Catherine’s and Henrico County, Tammy Fenster (Autism Specialty Class) joins us from the private sector/Chesterfield County, and Sheilynne Cambridge (SPED) joins us from Philadelphia, PA.  Let’s also congratulate Ms. Jamie (Freeman) Cates (3rd grade) on her recent marriage!

In closing, we encourage you to fully embrace the moment and urge you to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our school, as well as create a “reading friendly” home environment that will allow your children to excel.  Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and we look forward to seeing you in the very near future.

We are looking forward to another beautiful year at William Fox Elementary School!  Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns (780-6259).
