Weekly Parent Newsletter: 8.23.20

Greetings Lucille Brown Panther Families!

This is your principal, Dr. Gaines, and I hope you’ve had a productive week and restful weekend.  I’d like to thank all the parents that joined me during Tuesday’s virtual town hall meeting; your questions and feedback were useful, and we will continue utilizing that space to maintain connections with you and our students.  Please continue listening for this week’s new announcements.

School Days: The first day of school for all RPS students is Tuesday, September 8th.  Also, please be mindful schools will close at noon every Wednesday during the first semester, and no lunch will be provided on those days.

Childcare Survey: RPS is partnering with the City of Richmond to coordinate emergency childcare for working families who have no other options. If your family needs this support, please complete this survey as soon as possible.

Required Tdap Vaccination for 7th Graders: As of July 1, 2019, Virginia law requires that all 7th grade students receive a TDAP booster vaccination prior to 7th grade entry. Sixth grade girls are required to receive the HPV vaccine prior to entering sixth grade. However, parents and guardians have the right to decide if they want their children to receive the HPV vaccine or not.  Click the following links for the informational flyers:

English Flyers: DWW Flyer, TDAP FAQ, HPV Info

Student Kits: This fall, every RPS student will receive a #ReopenWithLove Learning Kit that will include all kinds of instructional supplies for our virtual semester. However, due to COVID-related shipping delays, middle school kits won't be ready until a few days after we start. Thank you for your understanding!

To pull all this off, we need your help – lots of it. If you can volunteer to pack and/or distribute kits, please sign up at Here are the dates:
