The award, presented by Virginia Teachers of English, an NCTE affiliate, recognizes an outstanding ninth-twelfth grade English educator in the state of Virginia. In addition to this award, NCTE annually recognizes over 90 exceptional English teachers and students throughout the nation in order to shine a spotlight on their great work and to elevate the importance of teaching and learning English.
Kimbrough, the 2018-2019 George Wythe Teacher of the Year, started her teaching career ten years ago at Boushall Middle School. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English from Virginia State University and a Master’s Degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from Averett University.
She was recognized at the Virginia Teachers of English Conference in October and will also be celebrated at the National Teachers of English Conference in Houston, Texas later this month.
