Yale Teacher Initiative Hosts Open House and Invites RPS Teachers to Apply for 2019 Cohort
The Yale National Initiative to Strengthen Teaching in Public Schools is currently accepting applications for their 2019 cohort. Established in 2005, the Yale National Initiative works to influence public policy on teacher professional development, in part by creating local Teachers Institutes that mirrors the Yale Institute in hopes of providing state and local policy-makers effective examples of the innovative Institute approach in their own communities.
The Yale National Initiative is a summer professional development program that provides public school teachers with a deeper knowledge of the subjects they teach and first-hand experience with the Teachers Institute approach to high-quality professional development. Participants will live on the Yale campus while attending seminars and participating in curriculum unit writing process personalized for their subject areas.
- Reading for Writing: Modeling the Modern Essay
- Energy Sciences
- The Problem of Mass Incarceration
- Perimeter, Area, Volume, and All That: A Study of Measurement
- American Democracy and the Promise of Justice
Over 50 Richmond Public School teachers have participated in the program since its inaugural year, including 2019 Virginia Teacher of the Year, Rodney Robinson.
“This is my third time participating in this program and I have never experienced a professional development program like the Yale Teacher Initiative,” said Mr. Robinson. “They provided me an opportunity to exchange ideas and strategies with teachers around the country. It allowed me to learn content from some of the leading voices in the world. Lastly, it truly valued me as a teacher and allowed me to grow and develop teacher leader skills while improving my pedagogy.”
