Two RPS High Schools Ranked Among the Best in Virginia

Open High School and Richmond Community High School have been recognized as two of the best high schools in Virginia according to the U.S. News and World Report.

Open High School earned fifth place of the 330 Virginia high schools ranked, while Richmond Community High School was ranked #21.

The U.S. News and World Report rankings include data on more than 23,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. This year, the report changed both the number of high schools ranked and the way that schools are evaluated. In a concerted effort to become more inclusive and thorough, The U.S. News and World Report increased the number of schools that were ranked from 2,700 in 2018 compared to 17,245 in 2019. This year’s rankings consider data from the 2016-2017 school year and are based on six indicators:

  • College readiness
  • Reading and Math proficiency
  • Reading and Math performance
  • Underserved student performance
  • College curriculum breadth
  • Graduation rates
